They made a short run of them with 16" barrels. My first fiber optic sight gun which I really like, it will get your attention when firing it with hot loads.

So had a selection of these big bore New Haven guns when they were toying with calibers. Including the introduction of the 450 Marlin. Of the big three. I settled on a 444 marlin since I could share components in reloading my 44 mags….good stuff.
I believe the 444 was the hardest hitting for Trex too, but can be challenged on that…

I have a couple.

375 JRS. Not pictured because it is out getting new wood. Remington 700 Safari.

416 Rigby. Dakota Arms model 76. Even with full power loads the recoil is very manageable with some practice. Only once did the scope touch me when I got cocky and didnt hold on.

A friend of mine at Milt Sparks Holsters gave me a bunch of 416 Rigby reloading components and ammo so I have been lucky enough to do a lot of shooting with it.

470 Nitro Express. Merkel 160 Double. With mid range loads it is huge fun to shoot. Full power loads get your attention, but arent abusive. Kind of like spicy shotgun slugs. Luckily, after 6-8 rounds the barrels get a bit warm so you are forced to put it down for a bit. For whatever reason, Merkel put a garbage recoil pad on this thing. It is nothing more than hard rubber. I need to get that changed.

Rocky Mountain reloading had 470 blem brass and bullets on sale a while back so plinking with it is cheap.

I am going to knock down a Bison with it next month. Should be fun and fill up the freezer.

Tom you have very good taste in rifles, I had a 7mm JRS built in the 90s and loved it, Stolen in MT along with my 2 1895 45-70s. I just replaced my JRS with a 300wsm Kimber Montana when they first came out, Your double is beautiful. Jon's wildcats were very well thought out and I had his imput when I built mine.

My biggest bore now is a medium bore .338wm and I sure don't need it in TN. I am going to take it for a stroll when season starts next weekend just to give it some fresh air

With my bad shoulders (both major surgeries) I had to wimp out on my 45-70 and put a muzzle brake on it. What a difference it made!

I assume that sight is holding up okay to the recoil?
Yes no issues to date with the Kahles Helia RDS, it is a great piece of equipment.
