I thought I was dead set on getting a Dan Wesson but the new Colt Combat Elite caught my eye and may perhaps sway me. I sold a blued Colt Government initially looking to replace it with stainless. I also want front strap checkering. This purchase will be more of a barbecue gun and for target shooting, it will spend most of the time in the safe. For anybody who has one, please comment on the fit and finish, accuracy, etc. Is it worth say getting a SS Colt Competition and then have the custom shop checker the front strap instead? Are there any other options with front strap checkering that I should be considering? Thank you!

I could be talking out of my ass here but to me it seems like the Combat Elite is better put together than the other Colts. My experience with the Combat Elite Government Model that I own plus a Combat Elite Commander that I shot during a Colt demo day back in summer of 2019.
The demo day experience prompted me to buy the Combat Elite Government in late 2020 when I finally came across one for sales. I would love to own the Commander and Defender to round out the Combat Elite family.
As far as factory Colts with checkered front strap, there is the Competition Plus which isn’t being in the current lineup. There is the Gold Cup Trophy.
Probably. It can’t be worse than the old Combat Elite with the slide being blued.
