I have been wanting to try a 2011 ever since I saw my friends STI DVC 3 Gun pistol, but it felt just a little large in my hand and the trigger placement was a bit far for a normal grip for me. However my wife went through her jewelry and found some silver and gold rings/chains she no longer liked and gave them to me to sell at the precious metals smelter in town, the price of gold and silver is so high, just a handfull of things paid enough to splurge on a new Stacatto XL. I have a single stack STI Host Tactical 9mm which is my most accurate pistol(compared to my baer's and wilsons by a smidge) and I shoot it a tad faster than the others for some ergonimic mystery and the trigger is slightly better/lighter at 2.5#. I use my pistols for our local PPC matches which allow civilians, have a slightly longer course of fire and allow dot sights. They had an XC but we can't shoot comped pistols so that ruled that out.

When I picked up the new XL it felt pretty good and trigger pull length was pretty good and trigger was just as good as my single stack, so I took the plunge. I asked the dealer if he could order the version with stainless barrel as I did not want to pay $100 premium just to have the barrel DLC coated as on the store pistol, but he just offered to cut $100 off the price instead. I have not had a bull barrel 1911 style pistol before so was interested to see how accuracy/lockup was without a bushing. I mounted a holosun EPS RD 2 sight on it. I prefer a single small 2 minute dot. Unfortunately the stacattos don't have a native direct mount sight pattern, so you have three screws to mount the RMR plate with rear sight, another 2 screws to mount the adapter that comes with the Holosun sight to go from RMR to K footprint, and then two screws for the sight. I have not had any RD sights come loose yet in 10-15K rounds through several pistols so hopefully this will be fine as well but it gives a chance for 7 screws to back out.

I found with my Brownells dealer discount with C&R license that OEM checkmade 20 round mags were only $95 shipped for two so I got them and I got a few plastic belt clip on type mag pouches to fit my belt. My kydex holster that fits my Baer Monolith, Wilson classic and STI Host SS also fit the XL and I don't use a mounted light or any of that.

Off to the range and got her sighted in fairly quickly then shot a PPC match which is 120 rounds out to 25 yards, left and right handed, kneeling, prone, barricade and unsupported, and only dropped four points which I called exactly where they were on the two unsupported offhand stages. Lots of X's. I then shot a 5 shot group prone off my mat at 25 yards that was 1.24" ctc using 3.2 grains bullseye, Precision Delta 124 JHP V-2's and 1.09 oal. That's close to my STI HOST which has two loads that will do 1.14" Should be even more fun as I get used to her. It did not like either of my 147 or 135 coated lead loads. It ran 100% through 300 rounds with the stock setup.

Deltapoint Pro is the sight that does not require a plate
Correct. Mine mounted directly to the slide of my Staccato P, that’s why I chose it. If you don’t mind a 2.5 MOA dot…..

You should be able to zoom in on this pic.

Good write up OP, and congrats!!

Vortex Defender XL has a DPP mounting pattern and has a 2 MOA dot option. It does have a small forward overhang so I would check with other Staccatisti if it can be mounted with pins only. This optic is the "it" thing in USPSA due to cost to feature ratio abd Vortex's warranty and CS. I had to replace mine, no problems.
Dot disruption with intense low laying sun is the thing with most optics but my experience also suggests that DPP is very prone to it. @Jocko1911 , not seen this yet?
Re EPS line of optics, what we [we as in some EPS users] have recently noticed was that 1620 batteries on the market don't seem to be of the same quality as other sizes of coin batteries. Not sure what noise to signal ratio is in this observation, but just pay attention to it.

I have, but I’m not a competitive shooter either, just a lead slinger for fun. So if I get in a low laying sun situation, the dot gets shut off, and I just use irons. That or switch pistols or call it a day. :)

I can’t say I’ve noticed a short or bad battery life on mine.

I might be in a minority but I'd have someone mill a relief shelf on the slide. That's what I had done on my other guns for other overhanging optics.
