Am thinking about getting a Springfield full size 1911 .45. Any major complaints about this manufacturer? Any models that owners seem to prefer? Purpose is for range use, not carry. Budget not to exceed a grand or close to it. Thanks in advance.

I have several of them, they are not overly fancy but functionally solid and their customer service is great. I bought a stainless Champion several years ago and had never fired it but I noticed the frame was scratching the hood, that upset me so I never fired it, 5 years later I call them, they sent me a label, fixed it perfectly and returned.
The only strange thing I've seen with them is years ago I was into Ultra's and I bought one of their micro compact's. The magazine followers had a large bump/dimple on them and my Kimber mags (they had small bumps) wouldn't work in them and they wouldn't work in my Kimbers.
