Thinking about burning up some of my Red Dot stash in my 45s. What do ya think? Good, bad, clean, dirty, stick with WST etc.

Yes, it's a decent choice if you want fast powder.
I've used it on 'n off, mostly for heavy bullets.
Like 230gr in 45acp.
Or 180gr in 40S&W.
Not bad in 38 Special 158 gr.
I never really liked it in 9mm, but it's OK.
Use it for that fast-powder-heavy-bullet thing
if that's what you want, not everyone likes that.
It doesn't always meter so kindly,
but get past that and it's a good powder.

I started loading .45 ACP with Red Dot. I used 5.0 grains for a 230 LRN, and 5.3 grains for a 230 grain FMJ. I chose another powder because it didn't meter very consistently. I was also having a lot of unburnt powder on my shirt after shooting. Even with the cleaner variation, I felt like I couldn't see that much of a difference.

Love Red Dot, load it from 4.0 - 5.0gr depending on bullet wgt, works with lite loads in GCNM with lightened slide really well.
Think maybe works good for lswc loads, but also load some fmj loads too.

I have not tried RD in 45ACP just yet, but have used it for years in small brass calibers(.380, 30 Luger) with great success. I also like it in 38 Special. I have never noticed a problem with it metering poorly....perhaps it is the powder dispensers that I use.
I load 4.5 grain Red Dot under a 200 gr lswc. It is very accurate, will cycle just about any 1911. It is a great powder for 45 acp, but as stated earlier doesnt meter as well as say w231. That said it is economical and burns pretty clean unless loaded in very light loads.
I bought a quantity of Red Dot a while back from a friend who develpoed Alzheimers and had to get rid of his reloading stuff. (Wish I'd bought his Winchester .270 also, but that's another story).
I use 3.7 gr. Red Dot under a 200 gr SWC for Timed and Rapid fire in Bullseye and 4.2 gr for slow fire on the 50 yard line. IIRC, that's with an 11# recoil spring. They both shoot better than I do.
I've used 4.5 gr under that same 200 gr. SWC for action pistol with my Combat Commander with standard recoil spring. Works great. I've kept on buying Red Dot -- I see no reason to change.

I had a quantity of Red Dot left over from my trap shooting days, so I decided to use it up for loading 45ACP. I settled on 4.3 grains with a 200 gr. LSWC bullet. As far as I could tell, it was as good as any Bullseye powder load that I had used previously.
Now I am working on using up a quantity of 700X , also left over from trapshooting. No complaints about that powder for 45 either.

Last year, I posted a bunch of loads using Red Dot, Green Dot, and some of the other old Hercules (now Alliant) powders from Ken Waters Pet Loads.
If you do a forum search on Ken Waters and Red Dot, you can probably find it. Some good info.
Same here. Had 16# of RD left over from trapshooting and at 5gr. per load it will take me awhile to get it used up. But, I like it.

coupe regulars at the range use red dot pretty much exclusively. According to them it's kinda dirty but works very well. IIRC they're right around 3.5-4 gr as well.
