I know next to nothing about RIA except that I believe they are made in the Philippines and I could be wrong there.

How is the quality? Fit, finish, reliability? Anything that I should look out for?

Ive owned a couple over the years and still have one. I had feeding problems with my compact , it just didn’t like HP’s . If you’re comparing them to Tisas i would go with the Tisas …I think they do a better job putting them together. That said for a first gun or project pistol they work fine .
I currently have this GI model i more or less use as “ fill in” until I replace it .

RIAs are decent pistols. I have a few RIA factory guns. I also have made quite a few 1911s on 80% frames with their parts kits. The finishes are quite durable and the for the most part the fit on my factory guns are as good if not better than other guns which cost 500-800 more than the RIAs.

All 3 of my factory RIAs came with really triggers, no creep and clean breaks. My 10mm A2 had a better trigger from the factory than my Dan Wesson Razorback 10mm. I did have to change out the Extractor to get the 10mm to extract reliably. I use EGW HD extractors in all of my 1911s builds so I had one laying around to swap out.

If you are able to get one for 299.00, you really cannot go wrong. The parts kits without frames cost more than that.

I think I recall you have some 1911 experience, but the typical trap for those asking about a $300 1911 is they don't understand 1911 sight dovetails and grip safety tangs.

After buying their $300 1911 with GI sights and GI grip safety, they immediately ask for night sights or target sights, and of course that grip safety bangs their hand so they want a beavertail grip safety. There are not a lot of night sight or target sight options for a GI dovetail, and fitting a beavertail may require more money or effort than they are willing.

I have two RIAs. I am very happy with their accuracy, reliability, and comfort in shooting, but neither are the basic pistols, both have better sights and beavertails. Both are considerably more accurate than my Ruger SR 1911-T, and the 10mm has a better trigger, too. While they have some cosmetic things I don't like, they are solid, dependable, and just plain decent pistols.
For a budget pistol, I DO like the Tisas pistols better, but not enough to shun an RIA if I found one I liked with the features I need.
