My wife's sister won one of these buying a few raffle tickets. Being a somewhat newbie to 1911's I was wondering what everyone thought about them. Ironically enough she asked me if I wanted to buy some tickets too, I said no since my son is getting married very soon and money is tight. She's not sure if she going to keep it or sell it so I'm thinking of trying to buy it from her later. I don't know if it's parkerized or S/S (probably former) since she hasn't went and picked it up yet. Being I've got a 1911 on layaway at my local g/s I don't know if want to spend the extra money. I have a RIA at the l/g/s, but a Springfield Armory would be nice too I guess. Thought/opinions??

Defender is the same as the Mil-sepc model. WWII style 1911 with some modern enhancements:
1. lowered & flared ejector port
2. bevel magazine well
3. tall front/rear sights
4. slant slide serrations

Very good basic 1911 if you like the style and not needing any other features like beavertail grip safety, skeleton hammer, modern dovetail sights, aluminum speed trigger etc.

I actually did a comparison between the Defender and Loaded.I like both very plain but 1911s.The loaded I leaned towards over minor differences plus packaged a touch diff.Price wise Defender is less ,loaded higher.I do believe this is it at academy sports. They do not always title a pistol by its name.Either way a winning ticket for what u said u cant go wrong.

This is what I think of when someone says Springfield Defender

Those PDP models were discontinued about 1.5 to 2 decades ago. I know what you are referring to, but most likely others don't know or don't remember those.

My Defenders series... got it for under 6 calms. IMO the best value 1911 on the market.
Forged frame and slide
Match barrel (so they say)
Lowered/flared ejection port
raised 3 dot sight
beveled mag well
Mine has a really nice trigger...
Some nice upgrades for a "mil spec" 1911.

No contest. Get the Springer

What exactly is it she wants to do that you have to talk her out of?

Possibly just sell it for the money, I just need to talk her into giving me a "kin folk" deal. lol She has 2 380's that she likes, but I seriously doubt she's going to like the recoil of a 1911 45 acp. So she knows this pretty much so she has talked about selling it.
