Since my Garrison is there for a couple things anyway, I asked CS just now about upgrading sights while it is there.
Ronin sights ledge rear/FO front is $175.00 plus return shipping $35.00 installed on my Garrison.
I think $210.00 total is too much for their rear ledge/white dots and FO front, but have no experience with Springfield sights. Are the FOs swapable Red to Green?

Is it worth the additional cost to have Dawson or Novak sights installed on my slide??
I know this requires the pistol to be gone an additional 3 to 4 weeks.

Heya Goldwings, Where did you find it?? I have looked all over their site for sights. Does it come with Green and Red lite pipes? Do you melt the pipe in place like the Novaks?? And have you found where the rear sights are? I know I want a black rear ledge with either a tritium bar or a single T dot or just solid black with a serrated face. I have 2 WC/Vickers tactical rears set up like that with one small rear dot below the U notch but on my gluck 19 slides.

I am not sure which front I ultimately want. I have big dot T with the Orange surround which I like a lot, the Ameriglow on 2 now and just Tritium dot fronts on 3 others. I am considering a gold bead front but the Novaks are a flat faced gold sight, not a bead. I am looking at the Harrison Gold bead but that is 200.00 or so just for the front. All my FO sights are on long guns and don't show up as well as I thought they would. These would be my first FOs on a pistol.

I could live with what you paid for just a front FO and with Springfield the dovetails don't need to be cut or altered.

Wait a minute... Your Springer is back at SA and they are going to charge you return shipping if they add sights onto a warranty job?

Thanks for the insite Johnb but this is on my SA Garrison 9mm. It came with the standard lomount 3 white dot arrangement. The dust cover inside right edge has a burr that puts the spring cap in a bind and SA CS has it to smooth out that right edge and eliminate a rough spot on the inside of the paddle plate thumb safety that has scratched thru the finish and is visible when it is locked.

Yes Flech, I was a bit taken back by the cost of the sights installed to start with while they have it in hand. $175 for both installed which is a little high I think but asked the tribe here first.

Great sights for this one are better priced from Dawson but the dovetails probably aren;t quite right and will need installation unless I stick with SA branded sights. I would rather spend the money now on a super barrel and do the sights down the road. I can shoot the factory ones just fine that are on it. I just thought I would ask them while they have it in hand. a bill for a sight exchange and free shipping I would go for but not that much

That is correct Flech, I just confirmed it again. If nothing but the RIA work is done it come back to me at no charge. If I have them install a set of RONIN sights it 175.00 for the sights and work and an additional $35.00 for the return to me shipping. The Ronin rears are a white dot ledge with a FO Red front. And I don't know if Green optics tubes are available for them and I have heard of the Springfield tubes flying out of the sights. but never the less $175.00 is too much I think plus the 35.00 $210.00 total wow!!!

I can either afford to get a Super barrel/bushing or a sight upgrade but not both LOL I wonder if they will fit a super barrel etc while it is there??? I will call them again in a few minutes about all this. A Kart Xact fit W/N barrel and fit kit will be 300.00 total. plus my time to fit it up

Not going to pay $210 for front and rear sights.
Dawson FO fronts are something like $39 and a 10-8 rear without the stupid dots SA puts on is around $60.
A vice, hammer, some cheap harbor freight files, and the punch Dawson sends has gotten the job done for me on 5 or 6 1911's.

Heinie rear is 64.00 plus 16.00 installation plain black ledge plus shipping both ways. Any way I go for installation sights are going to run close to 200.00 so overall to keep Springfield branded sights installed $210 isn't too bad but I was a bit stalled when I heard the total. I will be happy with black serrated ledge rear we put on here and a 45.00 front FO from SA will be ok by me. I will maybe just order the FO from SA and change the rear down the road.

I can usually live with factory sights, whatever they may be. One thing that you might consider is whether you'll ever strap a can on your pistol and possibly need "tall" sights.

You can still do pretty well with standard sights if you focus and use your imagination, but tall sights do remove a lot of the guesswork (y)

When at NightHawk last spring most of the pistols in the big viewing room had the tall sights, mostly plain black serrated rears and I liked them and the sight picture they offered. I will not probably ever run a can but the tall sights are fast to use. My Vickers black serrated U notch rears are very fast to pick up and I would be satisfied with rears like these on all my 1911s. I am not a bullseye quality Shooter and find these rears work great for both range work and as carry sights. I have noticed at night outside away from any artificial light source the small Tritium lamp on the one set are a touch faster to get in allignment. But I just don't have much precision shooting in pitch black. and can stay in the 6" ring at 25' to 30' If I ever need to clear my shops in the dark, I would be using a shotgun along with my pistol. It is better for me to call the county than try to clear my property by myself. I have a solid brick house and will just stay inside till the cavalry arrives. The driveway alarms, dogs and security cameras are my first line of defense. I am not going outside blind anymore, I just can't move as quietly and quickly as I used to on 2 legs.

A man has to accept his limitations eventually and plan accordingly. I have lights etc mounted on several firearms but I know what my best option is anymore. That means staying in my fortified place and sending up smoke signals.

In other words good crisp range sights will be just fine. black rears and FO or gold bead fronts on this one. FOs are less expensive and I don't see the advantage of a flat gold front over a true gold bead. The polished BEAD gathers light from all around and the flat gold spot doesn't cast the gleam as well. I have had flat brass fronts that even polished didn't do a good job of gathering and casting that glint. I love the look of the Gold bar fronts like Greg Derr and Ted Yost do but have always wondered if they cast the glint well enough for my old eyes to tell. Even with my new lenses I don't pickup the FOs on my shotguns any better than before cataract surgery.

They are solid Lo Mount 3 dot steel sights and I knew this, it was just one of the things I had to trade off getting a Blued Carbon steel frame and slide in 9mm ramped barrel config to convert to 38 Super at this price range. I will make do with the factory sights for now. I just way underestimated what a sight swap done by them would cost. GoldWings, what height front sight did you order? and are you using the factory rear with the new FO front? I appreciate your information on this, thank you

I have talked with them several times and found them to be knowledgeable or quick to get answers for me and very pleasant, The last person today made a note in my file about possible sights and I think I will just order what I want as you have. Since I couldn't find any sight options anywhere on their site, I asked speciifically about their replacing them, I did not ask if their sights were sold separately since I couldn't find them anywhere in the store or elsewhere.

I am not complaining and hope I didn't come across that way. If so, it is not my intention. I am asking other SA owners what they think. And what their experiences are concerning ugrading sights on the Garrison. I am doing a cost benefit analysis, and inquiring about the robustness of SA's front FO sight. Like most everyone, I want the best sight for me and my money.

Since you asked…this is an SA Loaded 9mm that I put a Dawson FO on the front myself. My old eyes are loving it. I was going to get a full set…but I called and talked to the Dawson folks and they suggested just doing the front first. Sure enough, I just kept the rear adjustable that came with it on…

Nice, and thanks for this picture. did you have to do anything fitwise to the base to get it pushed in? I know he makes these with square shoulders to aid installation. Yours look great!!

The one thing about having SA change the sights, they get to clean up any finish damage as it is a blued slide.

I had to figure which sight was correct for that slide…which was the reason I called Dawson. Getting the old sight out was actually the more difficult part. I made a little jig out of soft wood to tap out the old and the new sight in so that I wouldn’t mare the finish, nor damage the new sight. Patience was the key. It is sorta like the whole Idiot Scratch thingy when cleaning the 1911…

Wow insane prices.
I did site replacement for years with nothing but a phone book, a punch, hammer and a few cheep files.
I have more proper tools now, I can’t believe what is being charged for an install here.
the shipping charge is over the top.
this should only be about 30 min max of bench time.
shipping should not be charged in this case at all, what are they thinking?
Hard NO for me. Epic fail at customer service.

I don't agree with it, but SA has charged return shipping when a pistol is sent in for warranty and then additional non warranty work was done, for as long as I can remember.

I just ordered the Ronin sights for my Garrison from Springfield. 30.00 for the front and 24.00 for the rear and free shipping. Springfield quoted them changing the sights for $210.00 including 35.00 shipping. Simple ledge rear and FO front. Now to order a Super barrel for it. It is coming together slowly.

I wanted one good full size pistol in blued steel 38 Super, I fully intend to add a Harrison rowel hammer fire control group and solid straight trigger in one upgrade and a SC Magwell in another. If this project comes together well at some point I will have the whole pistol either DLCd or Baron Blued. but the point now is to get it together with this Kart barrel and get to shooting it.
