Hey there. Too new to know if I hit the right forum, hopefully I did.

Have Serial 59xxx, made by Colt's Point F.A. Mfg Co in Hartford CT. I can only find one serial number on it, and it's on the frame. Is there a number on the slide and / or barrel? This gun has been around the block that's for sure. Thanks in adance, gents. Hot Ajax

There should be a prefix.
No 59000 is a military contract pistol made in 1913,
C59000 is a commercial gun made in 1917.

Either way, the serial number is not repeated on any other part, it isn't like a Luger.

Colt numbered the slide only from 1937 until 1943 when it was dropped to save a step in wartime manufacture. On those guns, the slide number is under the firing pin stop. There won't be one on your gun, unless it got swapped around during an arsenal overhaul.

Unlike with many European small arms of the era US gun companies generally didn't bother with putting the serial number on all the major parts. On a commercial or military-issue 1911 the frame will be the only component so marked. Some foreign-manufactured 1911s were an exception of course, such as the Norwegian M/1914 and the Argentine Modelo 1927.
