Spegel Grips on EBay

EBay has an auction for a set of Craig Spegel grips. Not inexpensive, but Spegel grips are becoming hard to find and with potentially long waits when ordered, and as Craig states on his website, "I just turned 62. That means I've been doing this for 45 years! I still enjoy doing what I do, but at some point I may like to do more fishing and less work."

The seller originally had three sets, two sold through BuyNow, one set is currently being auctioned. It is a checkered Cocobolo set, current bid is $200, five days left.

The two sold sets were a pair of smooth black walnut, and I grabbed the very nicely figured Bolivian Rosewood set as soon as I saw them (see image below). Same seller has Spegels for other pistols as well (Colt Python, S&W, 1911) search EBay for "spegel grips".

@TXGR and @ToddSig Craig is a great guy, fun to talk with, love his grips. Those eBay grips look like they were cut from the same wood as the ones he made for me a few years ago for my custom H-Power built by Don Williams. Craig cut them to fit the C&S magwell, shortened by .25" at bottom. Craig also built the Delrin grip currently on the MKII.

When I buy grips from Mr Spegel he and I have talked many times about people reselling on Ebay. I buy as many as he will sell me and I always tell him I am not in the resale business. I think that he and I have done business enough times he knows I am telling the truth. I personally don't get paying that much for Spegels when if you are patent and willing to wait you can get the same grips for less. Cocobolo is not rare. There are woods like madagascar ebony that are.

For what it's worth, I bought these from a second party seller about a dozen or fifteen years ago for $120.00. So $200.00 to have immediately in 2023 does not seem excessive.

Five sets of checkered Spegel grips on EBay. Three sets of Rosewood, one set of ebony and one Kingwood. Unfortunately, starting bid on all of the sets is $350. The last three sets of Spegel Hi Power grips, all selling in February sold between $335 and $345 plus shipping and tax with between 11 and 13 bids.

Nice, but not $350 starting bid nice.
Beauties for sure, but I like the thickness of the original grips too, so I went with Herrett's Palmswell Zebra wood for $54 bucks in stock.
I'd pay $350 for Spegels, but not any more.

My 2002 TJ Sahara, 119,000 miles. Love it.
