I've heard of peening the rails, but it would seem that in taking out the lateral play by hammering rails down, you could introduce vertical play. So I had an idea...
Think of the little ball detent (or whatever it's called) in guns like the Redhawk. If you can 'embed' a small bearing in the frame and have the crane lock onto it, what stops a smith from embedding tiny bearings into the side of a frame rail -- bearings on which the slide would bear as it cycles, thus removing the lateral play. Is it it feasible? Is it a temporary -- would the slide cycling knock the bearings out?
Thanks.
