Tisas Build Kits

I recently discovered Tisas offers 1911 build kits. I didn't fully explore to see how many models it offers. I'm interested in hearing some facts and opinions from those who have built one or more of them? I haven't yet fully disassembled any type of 1911. I'm primarily interested in JMB's gun, the 5" .45. I'd also like to hear if you think purchasing and building a 1911 would be a good way to learn the gun? I only know a handful of people interested in pistols and none of them own a 1911. My 1911 knowledge is limited to two pretty good books on it, and a pretty good armorers DVD. I also own one of Kuhnhausen's books, but the information and procedures in it are a mile over my head!

Thank you for any and all responses, especially if you're a 1911 guru!

Complete pistol is most likely less expensive. Being left overs from armorer’s classes it would be interesting to see what fit could be achieved.

They were taken from the assembly line prior to assembly. Only way to get better frame to slide fit is the usual way (quite advanced like peening rails etc). Only way to tighten up accuracy is the usual stuff (custom bushing etc). Not part of the “kit” as I understand it.

My guess is that they would go together quickly.

It is not like you get a box of oversized parts (desirable) to custom fit.

That said, it should go off with minimal effort.
