PSA has the Colt Combat Commander back in stock and I’ve been wanting one for awhile. But now that I have my Tank Commander I don’t know. Looking at the two side by side I much prefer the Tank Commander. It looks like it means business. I love the grey color, the non beavertail, the short solid trigger and the grips. Don’t get me wrong I still think the Colt is a beautiful firearm but now I can’t bring myself to spend the money since I have the Tank Commander. The only thing I like better on the Colt is the flared ejection port and the sights. I don’t know how either performs as I still haven’t got to shoot my TC. I have the rounds just trying to find a good day to go to the range when the wife is off since we like to shoot together .Here are pics of them next to each other. Which do you prefer looks wise and why?

I personally like the looks of the Colt for its upgraded features, but I've been utterly disappointed in all of Colts new offerings. there fit and finish has dropped significantly imo. Tisas however puts out a well made firearm at a great price point! Most run right out of the box . We will have to wait and see how SDS handles repairs and warranty work though.

The Colt has the mods I would do to the Tisas. I'd also change the Colt to an arched mainspring housing. So, no question Colt for looks/function for me.

However, I'd also buy Colt for the known resale value and not being made in Turkey. Like frankietoys, there will always be people who slam the market leader Colt. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the reality is Colts are hard to find at the LGS because they are highly desirable. Just pointing out my bias.

If you like the Tisas as is, I'd probably consider a longer barrel model Tisas or a commander 9mm instead of the Colt.

I have both now. My 9mm Colt Combat Commander is the 04942XE. Finicky about ammo, have a 3x5 card I keep a record of which ammo works or doesn't in it. At first, I thought the dual recoil spring was worn out. Nope, it just won't work with some ammo brands. My Tank Commander in 9mm has worked very well with all the same ammo I tried in the Colt. Both are fun to shoot, quite accurate for me. I also have the Tank Commander in 45acp which also works well with all ammo I've used in it.

Have 3 Colt Commanders, 2 LW and a custom shop but they are OLDER mfgs so only problems were with the custom version which was mfg in 78. Carry a old LW everyday, love it.
When many friends bought Tisas’s I picked one up. Excellent all the way round but did change out the short trigger, it shoots perfect.
IMHO I’d buy the Tisas and change the sights and trigger and buy as much ammo as you can with the left over $$$$$.

And Colt, sure, they make 1911's. The one I got recently had a terribly finished sear and a gritty rough trigger. The guts are all MIM (not a big deal, really, but tool steel is nicer). The safety is a tiny skinny thing that I replaced because I like a wide safety platform to rest my thumb on. And Colt has a plastic mainspring housing.

Every mass produced brand may need some attention, and to be honest, the Colt and my Tisas - both needed a bit of fine tuning. But the Colt cost more.

I have a tisas duty in 9mm.
I put in a egw tighter bushing and this thing runs and shoots great.
Hard to beat for the $400 I have in it.
I have many other 1911's from about every maker and the tisas is just as good as the other's.
Hard to beat for the money.
That said,if I bought a tanker I would put a better beavertail on it to prevent hammer bite.

You should just shoot your Tank Commander ASAP to see if that ring hammer solved the hammer bite. If it didn't, then it changes your math.

Colt has a lot of upgdades, you did not mention it has an undercut trigger guard also. So a lot of upgrades and a nice blue finish, once you have it in your hand, you'll see how purty is is.

Colt may have a mushy thumb safety, if that happens you have a bit of a headache on your hands with sending it back for exchange to PSA or refit at Colt.

I say get both, my motto is 1 is none and 2 is one. You need backup.
____

btw, that 3 hole trigger on the Colt is the easiest thing to replace with whatever kind trigger you want.

The TISAS Tanker I played around with - AFTER picture.
It still has the small I sights.
:)

TISAS did the trigger guard cut.

I did the Extractor (shimmed x&z), trigger (TR sear cut and polishing), barrel bushing, and fir the beaver tail safety and hammer.

To TISAS credit, it was a lot cleaner machining inside than any of the Colts I''ve seen.

In the end, it made a great pistol.
But it does add up.

Did you use a jig on the safety or just by hand?

I approached my recent Commander buy like buying a house. What can/do I want to change and what can't I live without. Tisas as is = hammer bite and sights are non starters for me. You could "drop in" a Wilson grip safety (that wouldn't match the gun finish) but I believe the sights are much harder to change than something with a common dovetail cut. You didn't say if you shot other 1911s with a GI grip safety and sights? If you have and they don't bite you then maybe a non-issue for you, same with sights. I have Dan Wesson Vigil coming tomorrow and I still want a Colt Combat Commander because I've always wanted a Colt 1911 and the steel frame of the Combat Commander. Good luck!

Colts, are always going to be favored around here, it sounds like you want a colt in your collection nothing wrong with that.
I plan on getting a Tisas Stakeout next after I get all the new parts for the new colt I just got.
I have three 1911 all colts and I can say one of the main reasons to get a colt is well it's a colt and their resale value.
My first colt has a great trigger and is accurate out of the box but everything else was a disappointment.
The Second one has been great and is a great example of what I would consider a Colt should be for the price or 1911 in general. I got lucky with this one.
The third one is accurate no question about it but it too is a disappointment, would I recommend the new Colts from CZ? No, if you do get a new one I recommend asking if you can check it and field strip it. Based on my years of reading here it looks like Colt has dropped their QC and customer service is not that great to deal with.

I would say shoot the Tisas see what you like and don't like and make a list of what you want in a 1911. Save time and money by getting one with the things you want.

A long time colt fan here. But with that said, I imagine either one of those pistols will be a comfort on a bad day.
