I had a Colt 3rd gen SAA, 7 1/2 barrel 357 that like a fool I sold, probably 15 years ago. At the time I wanted a 45 or 44 with 4 3/4 barrel. I didn't get one and now I don't have the 357 either, o-well. Well, I only have 1 45 Colt revolver, a S&W 25, 4-inch barrel, so I obviously need another, but it will be a shooter and if I spent the money for a 3rd gen Colt, I wouldn't shoot it much and I have enough safe queens now. BUT, there are at least 3 different companies selling what I think is the same gun, Taylor, Pietta and Cimarron, is there a difference in the quality or any reason I should pursue one over the others. I do want a 7 1/2 -inch barrel 45Colt. and I don't want to spend Colt money, but I do want the nicest import I can get. Thanks

Strange thing that USFA was so short lived. Anyone know the story on that? I thought about getting a couple of their guns and then boom they were gone. I wish that I had gotten a few of them as they bring serious money on the second hand market.
I kind of followed that story as it unfolded and it sounded like the owner went off his nut. He was pretty much on the downside of the sales curve on the single actions and wanted something cheap to make that people would buy as a novelty, like cheap earbuds in the checkout line at the grocery. Unfortunately the basic engineering was fatally flawed and the "things", I won't call them guns, were equally poorly made. The good news is that New Coke is probably safe from being called the dumbest marketing move in history.

"We'll make it up on volume" only works if people buy your crap.

ASM as in Armi San Marco?

Didn't think ASM made guns for Cimarron. They had to be the worst of the Italian replica gunmakers. I have an ASM and Uberti Walker replicas, and there is just no comparison. I was considering burying the ASM in the backyard for a year to antique it , and selling it to some rube. They've been out of business awhile , no?
I have an ASM 44 version of the 1851 Colt Navy .36 The spring gave out not long after I bought it, and the cylinder gets scratched from the stop for the chamber. I don't know proper terminology for these. Also, the trigger guard is silvered, but there are grooves in one side from machining, and they should be smooth as glass. It wasn't bad for the price I paid, but I wish I had held out for a nicer replica.

I have a Uberti "El Patron" stainless 4 3/4" barreled 45 Colt and it is an awesome revolver. extremely well fit, trigger breaks clean and a joy to shoot. My fun gun

Wonder how you gents feel about the Ruger Vaquero?
Early versions or later ones?

The early ones were Ruger-strong, but much larger and clumsier (IMO) than a SAA. Basically a fixed sight Blackhawk frame. Plus it had the Ruger transfer-bar ''2-click'' lockworks. The later ones were somewhat smaller, but the feel of the grip was still not quite right.

Gotta have that 4-click action that spells out C-O-L-T when ya thumb that hammer back! ;)

But you simply can't beat the strength and quality of a Ruger single action. I own a bunch of old and new model Blackhawks, Super Blackhawks, Old Army, and a Bearcat.

Thank you very much, the nickle plated one I purchased off of my father. The other (27 or 28 colt just made the change from the caliber on the barrel to the script) was a gift from him for when I received my pilots license for the river. Very dear to me

I for one am a HUGE fan of Uberti. Your dollar goes a LONG way when you buy Uberti. And I'm just so grateful there's a company like Uberti out there making all those classic 19th century firearms.

I have owned Uberti's for 30 years and I have NEVER been disappointed. These days I shoot a Colt, but I bought a stainless Uberti for my son, and it's a fantastic revolver; he loves it.
