Wearing a seperate belt and holster for OWB

I like carrying a 1911 with shorter barrels and officer length grips. IWB or OWB the guns weight is contatly pulling my pants down. I really tighten the belt but that usually results if too tight of a grip on the gun, making it a struggle to pull or re-holster. Recently I have tried a separate gun belt worn just over top my pants belt, it seems to stay better, easier access and of course the gun rides a bit higher. I think the problem are today's short in the crotch pants riding lower than normal, my not having wider hips to support the single belt. This problem is with all my holster Sparks, Kramer, Galco and Urban Carry. By the way for OWB I really like the Urban Carry its also a lot cheaper than other options.
Anyone else have this problem or try a dedicated holster belt?

This was my first problem while carrying 2011. I used cheap belt and it worked fine with AIWB holster but was horrible with OWB. After first "Defensive Pistol" I attended I found that even AIWB made a big issues with cheap belt in certain situations.
I went with KORE ESSENTIALS Nylon Gun belt and never found single issue carrying my pistol AIWB or OWB.
It's not about tightening the belt - it is about how sturdy and stiff it is. Kore has been working fine for me.
I personally don't like "double belts", but you can also try Inner belt, which goes to your pants' loops and then put outer one with your gear. But it's not comfortable for daily carrying.
If your pants don't don't keep original level, you may consider using suspenders.

I agree with the short crotch pants beeing a problem but it also depends on the type of holster. I personally hate any holster where the outer side has belt loops, maybe they are called pancake holsters but tightening you belt puls them closed. I ilike the Galco Avenger and the Tucker HF-1 where the front belt loop is seperate or attached to the back of the holster so they don't pull closed. I use a 1-3/4 Galco leather belt, it's fairly stout and I've never had a problem with it.

I have this issue, but I have the issue whether I am carrying or not. If I tighten my belt enough so my pants aren't falling down, requiring constant tucking in, then the belt buckle digs into my body. One belt hole looser and I am constantly holding up my pants like some punk gang-banger. I wear cargo pants, so I could bring them half way up my torso if I wanted. My problem is, as a tailor once said, "You have a complex body structure." That means I'm fat, accordingly, very little works well because physics.

I only carry OWB, leather holster ( currently Braid's ) have a box full. My belt is a double layer Bullhide made by some Amish place in Ohio. I think they sell on eBay as well. I bought mine for about $20. Had mine over 10 years and hardly any wear.

When I was first in the AF we wore a 1 1/2" garrison belt over our regular blue dress belt (typical US cloth belt with a low profile slider buckle). I found it much more comfortable than the wider, heavier Sam Browne belts they issued later. A belt keeper in front of and behind the gun would keep it stable, and of course now you can get velcro lined belts that mate to a thin pants belt and really lock things together. When I carry a G19 or my Government Model I am really tempted to try a two belt combination, but haven't spent the money for the belts and keepers to give it a try.

I know what you mean. I have taken to buying "relaxed fit" pants because they seem to be longer in the crotch. I really like Red Kap relaxed fit jeans. Plenty of room in the crotch, and the pockets are big enough to allow comfortable pocket carry of my LCP Max.

I wear suspenders sometimes when my utility belt gets heavy or I go through a spell where I am eating way more than I should. A proper gun belt can support your holster and other items while still floating somewhat and not cutting off your circulation if you use suspenders.

I, sadly, don't have that chiseled hour-glass figure. Mine more resembles an oval. I've worn suspenders for years. I prefer OWB holsters and was always pulling my pants up even before CCW. Now my weapon and my pants stay where they should. Needless to say, speedos and tank tops are out (I'd probably get arrested for wearing them even without a weapon).

SA Inc m One belt all the time . Ether an old JayPee 1.5" dual-layer reinforced or a beltman with the same spec but embossed . I to like many am over weight 5-9 and 210lb and like suspenders as I can wear a belt a bit looser !! MY daily load out beyond normal keys and wallet are a MTAC holster lw commander with two back up 10 round mags , a ZT0350 and a pd35 tac light for 4lbs + . I do have a good ross lined 15* owb but those rigs never wear as tight to the body long term regardless of how tight your belt is so rarely wear a owb .
Now pants . Stop whining about Your short crotch pants . Your buying them so thats your fault . I don't find it mans pants that fit well for work or dress or recreation with enough room for a mans junk ride comfortable in so pay attention and maybe stop attempting to dress like one of the cool guys . MY one son in law is 5-11 and 165 and has no issues find a real mans pants ether .

You wake up cranky?

I was just curious why nobody suggested a lighter carry option than a gun that's over 2 lbs unloaded, if current gun literally pulls user's pants down.

This really seems more like an inadequate belt situation. I've not had any issue with carry belts. They're not "dress" in any way, but they hold the gun well without having to cinch the belt so tight that I can't breathe.

Not the belt I have 2 gun belts 1.5" one is fully metal lined, I am narrow in the hips, so unless I tighten the belt so it hangs on my hip bone it pulls down. My guns are a Bul 1911Ultra Light 9mm, or a 45 or 9mm DW ECO. I have been using the gun belt method for awhile and its comfortable, puts the gun in a higher more comfortable position. I was most curious as to whether anyone else has resorted to this type of carry. Oh and I don't like suspenders I feel old enough without them.

I have been carrying that way for over 20 years. The best part is when I have to sit on a toilet my gun does not go somewhere else. Drop your pants and keep your gun on. It also keeps your car's seat belt below your gun and allows you to draw when seated in a vehicle with no hangups. Whether this will work for you has much more to do with the shape of your waist and abdomen than your pants or how tight you cinch your belt. You're either built for it or you're not. You may have to punch a few extra holes in your belt to make it comfortable.

This is a huge part of the problem. It's also the reason that a lot of cops are having back and hip pain from their duty belts. Those are worn at the same level as the pants belt instead of at the waist. Our waist is just below the belly button, that is where pants should be worn and definitely where belts holding anything should be. The weight should be above the hips, so it's resting on the top of the hip bone. We're trying to wear load bearing belts on the side of our hip bones and that means it has to be worn a lot tighter to keep them from sliding down. Put your hand on your hip about where your beltline is. Notice that it's on the side of your pelvis. Now move your hand up so you can rest your hand on the top of the pelvis. That is where weight should be. Look at where hikers/backpackers wear the waist strap on their backpacks. That is where a gun belt should be sitting.

Eggzackly right. I used to sell and fit backpacks and I learned many years ago that you must have the weight ABOVE your hips - NOT wrapped tightly around them. People always seemed to want to hang all the weight off the shoulder straps or cinch their waist belt down low around their hips as tight as possible or both. If you do that you will be in serious pain by the end of the first day. You also need to eat light and keep your stomach almost empty until you pitch camp for the night.

Pants cut is one problem, as outlined above. Trying to carry an all steel weapon with a normal belt is another. I got a steel core gun belt from Amish Made Belts USA Handcrafted Belts and Wallets Quality At Its Best a while back and wear it even when I don't have a gun on me. The darn thing feels about indestructible, it's 2 years old and little sign of wear. Their double thick leather gun belts would probably also work, anything with more support to keep the belt from wanting to roll. And I find Dickie's work pants still sit at the actual waist, so the weight of the belt rests atop the hips like it should if that helps any.
