We've had a lot of threads lately talking about the advantages of lever actions, should I get this or that brand/caliber, etc.
I tend to agree with the value of the lever action, especially as a "poor man's assault rifle", and all the more so if semiautos get banned in the next major gun-grabber initiative.
But, just trying to think objectively here, are there any good reasons to AVOID lever actions? Are they mechanically more likely to fail or jam than a bolt action? Are they harder to keep clean? They certainly have some limitations concerning accuracy, and would also be hard to fire prone. None of this is meant to put down lever guns, I'm just trying to think through both the "pros" AND the "cons" of getting one.
Does anyone tend to stay away from lever guns altogether, and if so, why?
