What is your favorite hunting (hot) load for .45 Colt?

All the manuals say not to use reduced loads with 296, apparantly you can have pressure spikes. I always go by the book with 296, it works very well in 44 mag and 357 but it's a max load only. I would think there would be better powders for 45C. That's just my opinion and I'm just trying to be helpfull, 296 makes me nervous. It's what I use for max loads in the magnums but I'm REAL careful with it.
I have a Blackhawk .45LC (or rather what's left of it) hanging on a peg above my reloading bench. It's been there for 20 years.

There is only half a cylinder and the top strap is severely bent . A reminder to never go with an unpublished, reliable load or to engage in experimentation.

I used a W296 formula from a long time 'expert' reloader.

Do you remember "The Formula" your "expert" provided you with ? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just for everyone on this forum, a Modern Starline .45 Colt Case holds approx. 44.8 Gr. of 296. I just checked. That would certainly be a DOUBLE CHARGE on an already Top-End Load For a Ruger Blackhawk. Yeah, that'd be a little stiff............ :mummy:

- ONLY USE PROVEN LOAD DATA FROM THE POWDER MANUFACTURER PERTAINING TO YOUR FIREARM -
I'll look in my log books. It's been 20+ years. I might be able to find it.
