looking to by some non mim parts, all ww1 style. looking for mfg. who sells the correct thumb safety and wide spur hammer. think colt will sell them seperatly ?
bob
Colt now sells some parts online. Check their web site. Its been a while, but I don't remember seeing any WWI style parts.

My New Agent has an old style looking safety. I wouldn't mind having some more for future builds.

If they are not listed on their web site, try contacting them directly. They may have what you want, but be prepared to open your wallet.

The EMC hammer IS the factory part as far as I recall, and a magnified look inside recesses left unfinished doesn't show cutting, they show a pebbled finish you'd associate with MIM or cast...Colt flat sided hammers are sliced off a forged/extruded barstock like cookies off a tube of Pillsbury...the wide spur hammers are impossible to do that way unless everything narrower than the spur is cut away...

There are many WWI style walnut double diamonds out there; wouldn't worry so much about getting the Colt ones. They are a little rough compared to others - I suppose that is "authentic" but there are plenty of authentic looking Walnut double diamonds to choose from.

For those wanting to add a bit of flair to your WW1 repros, I am using grips from Alex Hamilton at Ten-Ring (I'm only using his grips, not his services). I don't know who he's getting them from, but I went over to his shop and hand-picked a few sets as it's always nice to have a choice in these matters. The checkering is excellent--sharp and linear to the diamonds (not crooked like most of the Colt grips I have seen). The screw holes are much better placed than those from a major manufacturer we all know... The wood? Totally inauthentic(!!!) in that it actually has figure and depth as opposed to the usual lumber found in production grips. Being walnut, I'm sure they will darken as they age, but they are sweet right now. Look here for a representative photo:

IMHO, twice the price of Colt repros, but much nicer, too. YMMV.

I ordered two sets of WWI grips from Colt and Midway is also selling the grips for Colt. I purchased my wide spur hammer off of gunbroker from "downslope" and he charges 20.00 and I have purchased two from him and they are first class hammers and both where drop in. Do a search on gunbroker foir "1911 Wide Spur Hammer Black New Colt". Nice guy to deal with. My SA WWI reproduction that I made is now at Ford's Refinishing and I will be doing an article on it in the future about taking a SA GI and backdating it to a 1911. I might just take my Series 80 and do the same thing.
