Watch the video of the actual shootout and see how accuracy goes all to hell when you're actually being shot at. Lots of rounds fired, apparently with few connecting although the perp apparently kept his cool better than the cops did and managed to wing three of them. It'll be interesting to hear more info as it comes out.

That police SUV took a bunch of hits and was smoking badly. Several credible instructors have said that a vehicle is a bullet magnet, it's true in that video. Here is another video from a different angle.

Latest update is that they captured the criminal alive.

I saw another video that showed the car wrecking and the Police SUV come to a stop as the perp opened the door and started firing. I know it's easy to armchair quarterback situations after the fact but the LEOs might have should just drove into the guy instead of stopping, getting out and running to the other Police vehicle. I don't know if that would have been the right move or not, but it couldn't have been that much worse than what happened.

A shotgun would also have been nice in that mess.

I'm beginning to think police need something like a 7.5" SBR in the front seat that they can quickly grab as they exit the vehicle. Something with more punch and range than a pistol, which seems sadly lacking when they need to place precision shots to take out a dangerous opponent.

The carbines tend to be locked in the trunk somewhere. I'm talking about something shoulder-fired that's quick to grab as it has a side-folding stock and a short barrel, in either 9mm or 5.56.

I would think taking cover behind the door of todays police vehicles is useless unless they have a few layers of Kevlar built in. Where I grew up , there were a few old junk 40s & 50s cars abandoned in the woods behind the homestead. Our ''shootin' cars''! Now that was sheet metal! .22 short HPs or a load of 12ga low-brass bird shot would not penetrate unless dangerously close. .22LR-HV would up to about a 45deg angle. Steeper angle or rounded body contour and they would usually skip off.

It went down like it did, because all the cops and criminals were put into a life-death situation, adrenaline was running, and we saw what happened.
Could it have gone better or worse? Maybe, maybe not, who knows.
After an exchange of lots of bullets I saw some cops running after the thug pos, were the cops already hit and then ran after him?
I bet ya though, the criminal probably should of been in jail due to prior rap sheet.

The vast majority of these savages involved in urban shootings of cops are ghetto career criminals. Until we decide to keep people who refuse to be part of civilization in prison for good, this is going to get worse. It is literally open season on cops. What Obama and his "advisors" did to cops through race baiting and agitation is now bearing fruit for the Bolsheviks.

Wow, post #22, seems to be crim-common these days?
The crims are getting more brazing by the hour.
Whatever they can do to unleash more than a magwell worth, they will do.

I am all for some new penal code. If you have one felony on your record, and you caught possessing a firearm with a drum magazine, 25yrs in jail mandatory minimum. I don't yet know how to handle people who have misdemeanor(s).

"Leroy, WTH are you doing in that bedroom?"
"Nothing mom, just filling up a drum with some 9's"
"Ok, hurry up, dinner is getting cold"

How about making shooting a cop a capital offense punishable by death...then actually follow thru on the punishment. I know this sounds harsh, but why should tax payers pay indefinitely to house and support someone who obviously doesn't want to coexist in a civil way with their fellow humans?

When you remove consequences, criminals care less about breaking the law and taking advantage of, harming, and even killing their fellow humans.

No, it isn't harsh at all. It is actually what needs to be done but instead of moving in the direction of legitimate punishment for these animals, we are moving in the opposite direction. Crime, violence and attacks on cops in our large cities are moving to record levels, but the 70 IQ morons who live there keep voting for politicians and prosecutors whose primary goal is to turn their own cities into dystopian nightmares. Solution? I don't see one because most people are conditioned to have empathy for the criminal class and think the real solution is spending more money on welfare handouts while forcing cops to be "community friendly".

Would a few flash-bang or concussion-bangs lofted at the thug help in this situation? They just need to be close to ring his clock, buying enough time & cover to maneuver? I am beginning to think a pistol bullet and a distant target is too challenging for most LEO's?

Or a fragmentation grenade.

Anyway, back on topic...

The gun found on the front seat of a car used in a shootout with Houston police officers
on Thursday afternoon was illegally modified to dispatch 50 rounds in about five seconds.

The Glock 17 9mm handgun contained a “full-auto sear” conversion, which allowed it to be fired rapidly.

full auto glock

The Range Master at the indoor range here has one.
IT sure goes through ammo in a big hurry!

Apparently not. I just cleaned this thread up... let's hope it stays that way.
