So if you have holster(s) for 5” 1911s, will they work just as well for Commander sized 1911s, aside from being a little larger than necessary?

A commander sized pistol is just a full size minus .75” right? So it should lock into and fit into a full sized holster no problem?

For the most part yes. However understand that if you put a 4 or 41/4 commander in a government holster you may find the “extra” leather may “roll up”so to speak in a manner you may not like. Also in an OWB application it might not conceal as well.

It will depend on whether the holster is formed to the gun around the trigger guard. If the holster is molded (boned if leather) so if the government model seats on the trigger guard all should be fine.

I only order/buy full size 1911 holsters. That allows me to carry either 5 or 4.25 inch guns. I find the 3.5 or smaller guns are a bit too top heavy to carry/wear. You can get by if you are static at the range. My leather comes from Thad.
