We just got done with the weekly Steel Challenge at the Clark County shooting complex in Las Vegas and the stated load of 4.5gr of hp38 with a 115gr Barry's plated worked great. Easy and accurate from a 5 inch barrel. There is not really a lot of data on that so...

I struggled to find data for 115 too when I started loading 9mm.

Out of the wife's EMP (3" barrel)

4.4 gr of 231, OAL 1.135 +/- .003 Berrys plated 115gr FMJ
Ave - 1026, High - 1057, Low - 994, ES - 62.68, SD 18.41
1020, 1024, 1044, 1023, 1022, 1057, 1026, 944 (Tossed out 1)

4.4 gr of 231, OAL 1.135 +/- .003 Berrys plated 115gr FMJ
Ave - 1022, High - 1055, Low - 998, ES - 57.89, SD 21.21
1006, 1023, 1055, 1037, 1045, 1006, 998, 1009 (Tossed out 1)

4.5 gr of 231, OAL 1.135 +/- .003 Berrys plated 115gr FMJ
Ave - 1036, High - 1043, Low - 1027, ES - 16.44, SD 5.83
1040,1036,1043,1030,1040,1033,1027 (Tossed out 2)

I ones I tossed out were measuring over 1300 which I assume were affected by muzzle blast most likely from the 300WM in the next lane. Very accurate though.

For my 9mm's I have used Berry's 124TMJ for many years, and have landed on 4.5gr W231. My old Speer's book has a starting load of 3.7gr with high range (memory?) around 4.6-4.9. When dialing in my dies, I started there and worked up until I found a measurement that would work in all my 9's at the time (Smith, Beretta, Glock's, etc.)

I found that balance at 4.5gr W231 under 124gr plated Berrys and have been pounding them out at that for 15 years.

i am running 4.6gr. of HP-38 under a XTP 185gr. bullet. i have found that in my 5" kimber it works well and is accurate. nice round to shoot and no hick-ups out of them.

Just a thought; you should probably clarify that you're talking about .45 with that, not 9mm.
Brand new reloaders are already confused with a lot of things, including what bullet weights are what, and that's a pretty strong load for generally heavy bullet in 9mm with HP-38.

I don't yet have a chrono, so what I do is to make direct comparisons between rounds using factory Winchester White Box as a "standard".
I know, not terribly perfect, but it keeps me and my guns "safe".

For example, beginning with a Colt Defender 9mm, I shot a mag full of WWB followed up immediately by a mag of my own load, that being a 115gr RN Plated on top of 4.64 of HP-38 (yes, I use a .01gr scale) at 1.125" OAL.
The notes I made to myself that day after I had actually fired those mags were: "Slightly LESS noticeable recoil than the WWB, but ran great! in all of the pistols".

I ran that comparison on several pistols, those being the Defender, then a 6906, then a CM9.

I loved that particular recipe because it was a little less "snappier" than the WWB even though it's in the upper range of the recipe.
"Technically", I'm a little high being over 4.6, but practically, I'm still good because anyone who loads with the typical, more common accuracy weight range of just .1 can easily load to my 4.64 and not know it.
Still, Hodgdon shows a max of 4.8 HP-38 with 115gr, so I'm confident that I'm a long way away from any pressure problems.

Hodgdon online data: Your 4.64 grains of HP38 with 115 grain plated bullet is below starting load per Hodgdon's data. They list 4.7 grain starting load, 5.1 grain max load, 1.125" OAL. Their data is for Speer GD plated bullet, so that 1.125" OAL might need to be adjusted for round nose bullet. But if you go by lead bullet data it's in the middle (4.3 grains starting, 4.8 grains max, 1.100" OAL). Just being friendly and letting you know. :)

Ahh yes, thanks, I need to be more careful of older threads.

My (not very good) excuse is that I just signed up to the forum, so I'm browsing through much of it and just hit on some of the stuff that piques my interests.
I'll watch a little closer from not on as I try to blend in unnoticeably, which it is clear that I have not done a very good job of doing. :)

HSM has load data for their plated bullets for a couple of powders.

115 gr. plated - HP38/W231 - 4.3gr. start, 4.8gr. max. - OAL 1.135"

Pretty much how I load 115 gr. RN, both plated and jacketed. At or near max of that listed charge (W231).

Yep, I know I'm contributing to the continued existence of this zombie thread.
