1911 mil spec jams with hollow points

I have had this gun for about 2 weeks now and put 350 rounds through it without an issue. But the second i loaded the mag with hollow points the bullet jammed on the feed ramp. I would have to keep cocking it back for it to finally load the bullet into the chamber. This only happens with hollow points. It happened with winchester 230 grain hollow poitns and also with PMC hollow points. I did a search and i found an old thread that said this problem was fixed by polishing the ramp and chamber. I have only used the mag's that came with my pistol from springfield. Any thoughts?

Also i purchased this gun new

The most common fix is to polish but make sure it's not an alloy frame before you do it. If it's a new gun you may want to run a couple hundred more ball rounds as sometimes it will eventually take care of itself. I've heard that the GS and Gold Dot 230gr have a more rounded profile and feed better in those guns that are picky. FWIW, my Kimber will only feed HPs if there are 7 rounds in the mag even if it's an 8 round mag and I've tried several different mags. Just throwing that in FWIW.

I was going to say...DONT POLISH ANYTHING!!! Just shoot it with ball ammo and break it in. worry about hollow points after it feeds flawlessly for 500 rounds with ball. seriously, quit polishing feedramps prior to the gun doing anything....it ALREADY comes smooth enough from the factory...mirror polish is NOT necessary...sure its pretty, but its not like they are coming out of SA with 400 grit ramps.

I didn't polish it I just said thats what I read when I did a search. Either way I figured out the gun was fine it was me with the problem. Now it works flawlessly with the hollow points. I'm going to the range today to put another 200 rounds through it so I will be at 550 rounds through it as of tonight.

You were riding the slide which is a big no no. Train to load the mag and then with your weak hand reaching over and cupping the slide (over the rear sights) and releasing pressure off the slide stop, then letting go so the round goes into battery.
Never pinch the rear of the slide with your thumb and forfinger and "ride" the slide into battery.

There are several good videos on you tube explaining the proper techniques. Look for pistol training videos from Thunder Ranch for starters.

BTW- Make sure to blade yourself and keep the muzzle downrange when performing this technique. I would hate for you to muzzle sweep the person next you with a live round at the range.

Go to the Personal Defense tab then slide to bottom and select the Thunder Ranch shooting school video. Pay special attention on how he teaches them to make he firearm ready to fire.

Check your extractor. My Champion will not feed a hollow point at all. I just was sorting brass the other night in preparation to firing up the press and noticed that I have a scrape on the angle at the base of the case in front of the extractor recess on all of my brass. I think the extractor is hitting the case and holding it down rather than allowing it to slide up the breech face properly. Ball is round enough to cam itself up and over power the resistance but HPs just ram the bottom of the ramp. Swiss files and stones coming to the kitchen table this weekend.
