Hi! I’m a Glock fun due his reliability and infinite possibility for customization. I'm confident with it and good enough at point and shoot - one hand techniques. I also have consistent experience with CZ, EAA , HK and Beretta in 9x19 mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP, only FMJ ammo.

But the dominance of 1911 pistol in sport shooting due their fast and accurate shooting capabilities is without any doubt. I heard that some police agency or individual officers return to their old 1911 models after many years with plastic ones. I’ve already read about some 2011 issues as: failure to feed between 12 th and 14 rd rounds (for 9x19mm), extractor problems or necessity for periodically carefully maintenance due its high dust or dirty sensitivity. It is really uncomfortable to wear a 5 inches 1911 as CCW?

I’m thinking about buying a 2011 5 inches pistol, about 2000$ in 9x19 mm, who will replace my present Glock 17. I’ll use this one as one gun for fun, sport and self-defense… you know, muscle memory and practice with the gun that youn will carried. So please tell me about your experience with 2011 pistols as STI Edge, Tactical DS and others representative models as service or off-duty pistol.

you may want to check out the Brian Enos forum as a lot of the guys there are running these platforms. I have had 2, a 4" STI 45 Tactical and a 6" fusion custom. I used both for HD at times since like you said, muscle memory and training. I carried the STI a few times but before I invested in a real belt or holster. so it was a mess. way too heavy. It was over a pound of just ammo, way more than the LCP or similar I was used to. Ended up selling both to help buy a house, but I would have gotten more into that STI if I could.

the big problems you read about with mags being unreliable happens typically when people try and tune them to get as much ammo as possible. stock they run pretty well. Not cheap, but nothing about the platform really is.

You have to pay attention to the gun like you would with any 1911 style, but you will get years of service, a great trigger, amazing accuracy, and an easy to shoot handgun in exchange. If you can stomach the price, get one and test your mags.
2011 heavy weight it is a problem for daily CCW. Myself I sold my 2 rifle and 3 pistols to get money for a nice car. 1911 best trigger, accuracy and fast shooting is the reason for I started this topic. Yes the Edge and accesories price are to high for its max 10% benefits over the Glock.

I don't really care who says otherwise, but to avoid issues I've always believed in going with the caliber the gun was originally designed for, GLOCKs for example were initially designed as 9mm platforms and some issues were mainly found on different calibers.

Anyway if you really want a 9mm 1911 I could suggest a STI Trojan, or a WILSON COMBAT, but how much I love the venerable 1911 I think you can probably find better service pistols out there.
My 2 cents.
9x19 for me has best ratio for training, high capacity and stopping power. I like bull barrel as my former Tanfoglio Extreme had it.

Yes cjgregory, the gun is for offensive not for defensive. I'm not good with revorver, and I dont give up at more than 20 years of pistol practice. Here only few shooters have 1911 models, and no dust cover.
