Been trying to find a 327 or 32 H and R and finally gave up and decided to try a brand new Blackhawk in 30 Carbine. I really just wanted something to load with cast bullets on the lighter side and 5.7 grains of Unique under a 100 grain cast bullet was soft and quiet as could be!

Not sure what velocity was, my 9 volt was dead.

As usual my reloads were a little sticky going in, I have some die adjustment to figure out.

Been reading up on all the different ways to tinker with this gun to fire other rounds but I think I will leave it alone for a while. Ruger only makes the 30 Carbine in a 7 1/2 in barrel and I kind of like the longer sight geometry. Some of my heroes like the shorter guns but I will mainly be target shooting and shooting a critter here and there. Seems like there is a pretty big range to load ammo from mild to wild.

Brand new this gun was a stingy tip over six hundred so I was pretty happy about the cost.

I do have a nice chunk of Red Elm I may try my hand at grip building this winter.

Be fun to hear any good stories about 30-32 caliber pistols out there, hunting or otherwise?

.30 Carbine was obviously designed for a rifle, and the powder won't burn completely out of a handgun barrel. My understanding is that not only are .30 Carbine handguns loud but they also make great flamethrowers as well. Maybe the OP can confirm it.

I had to look up Bugs Moran, but he died in prison.

It was Bugsy Siegel assassinated in Beverly Hills with a .30 Carbine. I can't remember who it was, but he told Bugsy that he was wary of being friends with him, and Bugsy said something to the effect of, "Don't worry. We only kill each other."

Nevermind, I found it. That's what he told Flamingo Hotel building contractor Del Webb.

I had one of the early (3-screw) Blackhawks in .30 Carbine. My first center-fire rifle was a G.I. Carbine so I was well into hand-loading by the time the Ruger came out. It was very flat shooting - by the time I got a chronograph I had shot it quite a bit - the 110gr. Speer "Varminter" JHP gave around 1450 fps out of Rugerr, it gave 1950 in the M1 Carbne - both worked well on woodchucks!

I stupidly let it get away in a trade, been looking for a deal every since - I guess I'm just going to have to break down and pay full price for one :censored:

But I would like a 3-screw since I no longer have much practical use - our woodchucks have all but dissapeared and I don't shoot them any more.

I wasn't aware they Chambered a Blackhawk in .30 Carbine.

Nevertheless... the .327 magnum is a great round if you ever get one. I have two revolvers in .327 mag and the same revolvers will fire .32 shorts, .32 S&W, .32 H&R Magnums and the .327. A wide range of different loads, from a puffy-girly .32 load to a stout .327 magnum load.

I had given up finding a 327 Blackhawk and decided to get 357-9mm convertible Blackhawk. There next to the convertible was a 30 carbine but it was almost $900 so I wasn't to interested until I started reading about them. Then found brand new ones for 607.

All I've shot so far is the 5.7 Unique load so can't comment about noise. Everyone says its loud with rifle ammo. Rounds loaded with pistol powder should be a different animal. My loads were pretty sedate and no flame at all.

The 30 Carbine Blackhawk is no louder than a 357 Blackhawk, but neither can out do a Single seven in 327 Federal! they ARE LOUD!!
I haven't shot any of these against my 44Mag or 454 Cassul?, the Super Redhawk Alaskan might be louder??

The 30 Carbine Blackhawk is no louder than a 357 Blackhawk…
This!!!

I smile when folks talk about a 30 Carbine NMB as being prohibitively loud, just as I do when recalling the time a gun store owner informed me that, “Those Rugers are not allowed in the indoor range, because they’re flame throwers and they’re too damn loud”! In response, I asked, “How about my S&W 500, is that allowed here”? My smile turned into an outright guffaw, when he said, “Yes, those are okay”.

And for different reasons, the Brass at my indoor gun club (also) prohibit the 30C NMB, even on the magnum handgun lanes! And it has nothing to do with flames or loudness, but rather, damage a 110gr 30C bullet will inflict on plate steel backstops. I kindly challenged them at a club meeting with this: “How is it that I can fire 1,900 f.p.s 115gr FMJ 9x25 Dillon and 1,600+ fps 95gr FMJ 7.62x25 rounds, but not a 1,500 fps FMJ 110gr. 30 Carbine”?? The reply was (again), ”Because of damage to the backstops” 🤷‍♂️

At any rate, the 30C NMB with its’ tapered barrel, is one of my favorite & most handsome (outdoor!) firearms. In addition to the Chig’s grip panels, and a Wilson Combat (reduced weight) spring kit, I also swapped out the aluminum alloy grip frame for one of Ruger’s rough cast SS frames.

Those are amazing guns. With a Full Power 30 M1 Carbine load they are LOUD. Pretty good Varmint handgun. I have one with a Burris 2-7 Pistol Scope. It gives you 11-21in of eye relief. Many a Coyote has dropped with that gun. I stick with 85gr-110gr and H110 or H4227 (not IMR). Ear protection is a must.

I have fired the Ruger in .30 Carbine. It belonged to a great ammo maker in my area and he made ammo for it with pistol powder. Olympic at one time made ARs in .30 Carbine - I had an Inland M1 Carbine at the time and no ARs, so I never thought about getting one, but many years after it was discontinued I finally realized how great an AR would be in that caliber - way too late.
