Greetings All,

I've been toying with the idea of adding a 38 Super to the collection. I saw one that looked promising, but noticed that it did not have a ramped barrel.

I was under the impression that 38 supers, along with 10mm and .40 should have ramped barrels for best results?

I'm grateful for any and all advice.

Colt got along with standard barrels for a long time until the IPSC shooters started overloading .38 Supers for Major Power Factor and to drive their compensators with large volumes of gas. If you plan to shoot standard ammo, an integral ramp barrel is not necessary. And I don't think particularly desirable.

If the top of the ramp is farther to the rear for more support and the bottom of the ramp is in the normal location in front of the magazine lips, then it just has to be at a steeper angle.
I have seen (own one) integral ramps that were eased over for reliable feeding to the point that they provided no more support than a standard barrel. I have seen standard barrels with such small barrel ramps that they provided as much support as a typical ramped barrel. The old King's barrels were good about that, and I saw one Briley the same way.
