From my neighbor's Ring cam last Friday night about 4 AM...
Four guys going from house to house looking for unlocked cars.

Neighbor's security lights are on - it's like daylight out there.
They don't care. Ain't skeered.

Police say there were dozens guns reported stolen from cars that weekend.
That's MY car. It was locked, of course. And I don't leave any firearms in my car over night.

It also kind of changes my mindset going outside in the middle of the night to
see what's going on. It will be a much more tactical approach from now on.
Pistol at low ready instead of just in hand.

Body armor over underware? The new tactical dress?

Ya'll be careful.

That guy next to your car definitely looks to be armed. Plenty of people leave for work at 4am... imagine walking out of your house and into those creeps. Unfortunately no carry gun is going to be adequate against multiple bad guys all covering one another.

Had a neighbor see a couple women do that some 30 years ago. He didn't confront them, he didn't call the cops he didn't tell anyone until people noticed stuff missing from their cars. At that point he told them that he watched them do it. People were pissed.

About 5 years ago, a friend had someone rifle through her car and steal some unimportant papers. Her husband found a cell phone on the seat of the car. It had names in the phone book like Mom and Dad. He called mom and told her that he found her kids cell phone in the car and that the kid must have dropped it while he was breaking and entering cars in the neighborhood. Mom's head exploded. She called my friend a liar and her son would never do that and on and on. My friend said, OK, I'll give it to the police along with a report of items missing from the car and you can tell them what an angel your little criminal is. He gave her every opportunity to keep the police out of it and deal with it herself. She squandered the opportunity.

Around here…these types of Aholes have all been arrested before…and released with no bond. Seems the local DAs think jail just makes things worse. They have ZERO fear of any consequence. Here, the good guys would be charged with whatever they could throw at them…if you stop/interrupt/shoot these jerks.

Unfortunately if you went out and confronted them you likely WOULD be charged, as you can't chase after someone and then claim self-defense. That's why these thugs are so bold... they're already being criminals so they have nothing to lose.

Looks like something that goes on in the city and the burbs of Detroit pretty regularly. One of the neighbors a few years ago saw something similar… went in to his back yard and discharged his SG into a dirt pile called cops and blamed the SG bast on the hoodlums. The cops found the punks in the next sub breaking into cars there. He has never seen the AH’s in his sub again. I have no idea why anyone would leave a gun in their car? Why not just leave a sign on your car and say… “help yourselves BG’s… I am one of the reasons you AH’s are out looking for guns in cars.” Bad idea to leave a gun in your car.
One of the cops who used to live near here said they had busted some punk-thugs who had told them—besides stealing guns from dummies who leave them in their cars—they also hung out in parking lots where stores which had “No guns allowed.” posted because they knew it was an easy steal. I won’t spend a dime in a store that does not permit guns in their businesses.

In my neighborhood in central Florida, there has been gigantic growth, and the kid criminals are roving the streets. The parents think it’s okay, and that their thief criminal kids can do what they want, and bingo, the problem reveals itself. My deterrent system is always watching, and if you’re in my yard uninvited, well in Florida, the sheriff has told us all to shoot them, and tells the criminals that central Florida is well armed, enter at your own risk.

On the evening news in Memphis the City “Leaders” are complaining about additional Law Enforcement in the form of State Troopers making arrests. They want them to leave because it is creating too much work for the court system. Their proposal to reduce crime is to reduce arrests.
Now you know what the strategy is behind touting lower crime rates in Memphis.

So if you all want to eliminate all of that criminal activity Turn Those Cameras Off!!!!!

You don't have to worry about your cars, but you should worry. Minors are committing these crimes and causing 2 things to happen. They are arming criminals and success will embolden them to commit more and more serious crimes.

People who leave guns or valuables in their cars are stupid.

It would he stupid to go outside in the middle of night to see what's going on. The "Terminator of Ukraine" comes to mind. I'm glad I don't have to deal with stuff like this.

On July 29 there was an earthquake near Russia. It prompted a tsunami (tidal wave) alert for Hawaii. There is a public park across the street from my house that became an emergency evacuation shelter for people who live in the inundation zones. Apparently, there were some punks who evacuated to my neighborhood and thought it was a good idea to walk around the neighbor's carport at 2am. Watch them scatter like roaches when the automatic lights turn on.

It always surprises me to hear local news warnings to people to lock their cars and take the keys to avoid thefts.
I’m not in a common area for car theft, but my vehicles are locked at all times with very limited exceptions.
Where’s the wisdom in leaving your car unlocked with the key in it? Do people still do that? At 4 am, the dog would announce their presence anyway.

In Memphis people started leaving their empty cars unlocked so the glass would not be broken out.

“You have to leave them unlocked or you’re gonna pay 400$ every week for a new window,” Ben Terhune wrote.

“My daughter’s best friend got off work one night and every car in the parking lot had a broken window but hers because she left it unlocked,” Tonie Liles Rayburn said.

People who leave guns or valuables in their cars are stupid.
How about people who leave guns or valuables in their houses?

How about people who work from trucks? Remove every tool every night?
How much ground are the “Really Smart People” willing to give?

Not sure why anyone would leave their gun in their car overnight in front of house...Yep, Cavelamb you have to re-think your SD Plan with this going on now...We are blessed so far in my neighborhood that nothing has happen like "that", but every few years or so we get some petty destruction by teenagers of mail boxes and such, just part of "country-living" I guess lol. But neighborhoods can go bad pretty quickly so always have to have the tools to defend oneself in advance...Stay safe CaveLamb!

When I was living in San Antonio, I got into a discussion with an officer after we had a spate of break-ins at one of our larger sites. Generally, most trucks that are broken into in the area result in a stolen firearm. I find it mind boggling that many think storing their weapon in the center console is "secure". These crooks are in and out of the vehicle in less than 30 seconds. And generally, they're looking specifically for firearms. If you're going to store your weapon in a vehicle, at least have the foresight to use a safe of some type (I have a console safe in my vehicle).

Context and perspective.
Silly Stupid People……
At least they had their firearms securely locked in a car safe out of sight.
Someone called out the National Guard this week.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police reported 12,555 motor vehicle thefts last year, with nearly 10,000 the year before, and only around 1 in 10 of those cases are ever solved.
It’s an enormous number with a tremendous impact. Each car belonged to someone. Some of them shared their stories with News Channel 3.
