Anniversary Edition in the works?

I know that the 1911 was actually designed prior to 1911, but given that 1911 is the date forever associated with it...

I wonder if Colt will be releasing a 100th Anniversary model, and if so how such a special edition might be configured? Any ideas?

I guess they will take a stab at it. Probably others will, too. The Colt version would be like the other commemoratives. The U.S. Historical Society version will be gold-plated and way too 'busy' in typical fashion. What I'd like to see is a plain, unadorned replica like the WWI series. I might even buy one.

It would be nice if they made a series of them, with differing amounts of embellishment, like the 20th Anniversary IPSC commemoratives they did in '96. There was a plain blued model with just a fancy rollmark, then there was one with some gold fill on the slide, and the topper was blued over stainless, with more engraving and ivory stocks.

Something along these lines would be great. I'd personally like a royal blue model with a nice rollmark, vertical slide serrations (no front serrations), good sights and internals that have had attention from the custom shop. Throw on some nice grips to top it off, and pack it in a presentation box. Basically a gun that resembles the early models while having the best modern internals that Colt can produce.

I'm hoping that Colt will build something unpretentious. If Colt builds a gaudy 100th anniversary 1911 then I'll have no choice but to wait for the 200th university to come around
Freudian slip ?

Put me in the "I hope not" camp; just because these anniversary edition things can get so ridiculous sometimes. But, if it has to be done, a limited run of the Carbonia blue 1911s might be nice, numberd 1 through 1911 perhaps. Maybe even package it the same style box from 1911 with all the same goodies it came with back then. If the Colt Custom Shop feels like building something fancy, let's hope "understated elegance" is their objective.

Any 100th anniversary commemorative that is not built and commisioned by Colt will be illegitimate. Sort like Ford building an anniversary edition of the Corvette.

I have been thinking a lot about the 100th anniversary commemorative Colt 1911.

I think that the commemorative pistol should be made on a basis of a WWI repro with the early "high polish" found on approximately the first 3,500 1911 pistols with real period correct Charcoal Blue finish (sorry no Royal Blue), with hammer, trigger, slide stop as well as thumb safety in nitro blue and correct “saw & punch cut” two-tone magazine.

Just the opinion of a Colt lover,

Regards,

Oh, yeah, everybody will be on the bandwagon for the Centennial. Of course it might be with BB guns under the terms of The Gun Control Act of 2010, but we can hope for better.

Colt is tooled up for their Imitation Army Surplus WW I 1911s and it will not be much trouble for them. Looking at their recent efforts, they would probably have to contract out the finish work to get an early type polish job.

I'd like to see a nicely made replica of the original National Match with the Stevens style adjustable rear sight.
Of course I'd like to hit the lottery a couple times as well.
