Another Mauser sniper....

The sniper used an 8mm Mauser, I couldn't find any more about the rifle, except it was "an antique".

What's the chances of two "alleged" snipers using old Mauser to perform their cowardly deeds?

I can't get my head around this without going to the "they got more in common than we currently know about" thread of thought.

My own thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those killed and injured, as well as the injured parties themselves, no matter their status.

I'm a little skeptical of the 'anti ice' written on the ammo. It was raining hard that morning, and the message was awfully well preserved considering that the picture had been taken some time after the incident. If I tried to write anything on a brass case it would be a smeared mess. It would only get worse after being carried in a pocket and lying in the rain for an hour or two.

I'm not aware of any images of the rifle Jahn used (at least Google couldn't produce one) but the fact that it's a Mauser chambered in 8mm Mauser and reportedly "a rifle used by the Axis powers in WW2" would suggest some variant of the 98.

While there are a lot of 98s and K98s out there, what are the odds that this a-hole would just happen to use a Mauser so soon after one was used to murder Charlie Kirk?

Add to that the slogans written on the shell casings and you have what has to be a copy-cat who decided to go out in a blaze of ersatz glory.

I don’t think both were Mausers. Both seem to be classic old school rifles that appear to be simple to understand and shoot accurately. They are commonly available.

My first rifle choice would probably be a lever action… second would be a bolt or semi auto rifle of a design from early last century. Near last, for me, would be a more modern rifle such as an AR type. I do find them super easy to shoot well with and there are other advantages, but just not my style. Perhaps style, familiarity and availability are considerations.

Cheers,
Tim

Well, rifle in the Kirk assassination was a "sporterized" Mauser, instantly recognized by the photo showing its unique safety "flag". Well established it had been rebarreled and restocked.

Pretty sure that in the second incident... I guess they'll have to show a picture of it before a 100 percent ID can be made. So far its known that it was a bolt action, taking 8mm ammunition, using stripper clips for fast loading. Walks like a duck, swims like a duck, quacks like a duck.... ya know, probably a duck, or Mauser rifle. Whether it was German, Spanish, Polish, Argentine... ya know all that is up in the air.

Just about every bolt action rifle made in the past 126 years uses design features found on the original Mauser Gewehr 98. Even our Springfield 1903 borrowed some design features of the Mauser 98. The Germans made millions of them. Clearly we have some "Copy Cat" self professed snipers whos ideologies mimic left leaning policies and lies. Our politicians and school administrators have removed prayer from our schools leaving us with at least two entire generations questioning why we were formed as a Republic. This is exactly what Charlie Kirk was so passionate about; talking to our young people. Charlie Kirk was murdered/assassinated for speaking the truth. We are going to miss you Charlie! Hopefully, the world will wake-up to the disaster we face in public education. I'm in my 80's and put my children though private school, and my children are now doing the same for my grandchildren.

I saw that picture on another site. I was going to show it here with the gory bit out of frame. But, the user who posted it said he was not sure that it was a picture of the Dallas ICE facility shooter. So, I didn't want to post inaccurate info.

If it's a true picture of the snipers body, I have to ask how the person who took the picture was able to get it as it was an active crime scene found and secured by first ICE agents on the scene and turned over to Dallas Police until FBI ERT arrived to process the scene. It shouldn't have been released. But. Somehow, someone on the internet obtained.

Here's a pic of the Dallas ICE facility shooter's rifle - I made it as safe for work, etc as I could. Like I said in the other assassin rifle thread - from my observations it looks like a M48a Yugo 8mm. Appears to be unmodified from what we can see - I assume no optic since the left over rounds were on a surplus stripper clip - can't use those if you block it off with a scope - and also the bolt appears to be original and not re-profiled.

The stepped baseplate, rear sling attachment inlet and bent bolt is why I say it's a 48a - I'm willing to bet it has that big thick silver butt-plate - but I can't find a photo of any other angles.

Edit - Looking at bit closer at my own picture here - there's a possibility of a forward mounted scout scope - is that a rear lens just below his middle finger?

Leftism…communism…fascism…naziism…socialism…are all directly responsible for at least 100 million deaths in the 20th Century…through war…genocide…famine…murder…neglect and who knows what else. It’s a matter of history if anyone wants to look into it and face reality.

There are some differences…communism and socialism divide by economic class. Fascism and Naziism divide by race. Today’s Democrat Party divides by both as basic policies.

Millions of Axis Mausers were imported after the war and probably a million were 'sporterized', had their bolt handles, barrels and stocks cut or replaced, receivers drilled and tapped for scopes. Many were rechambered to 30-06 as USGI surplus ammo and cases were dirt cheap. I've has a few.

Real WWII German Mauser sniper rifles were unique, rare and highly sought after collectors items.

Years ago, the late Sen. Diane Feinswine proposed a bill to ban ANY high-power rifle that could accept or could be made to accept a telescopic sight, effectively making it a SNIPER RIFLE!

The stripper clip is an odd twist because as we all know, a stripper clip cannot be used on most rifles with a scope in place.

For those of you who don't believe just how dangerous the left is: They have found leaflets in plain sight at a Georgetown College Campuses recruiting "Leftists" with slogans like "Hey Facist... Catch". That was the slogan that the murderer of Charlie Kirk used.

Left Radical Gun Club called the "John Brown Club" is recruiting people and arming them. :( Like the Communists everywhere... in Russia, Cuba, China... everywhere there was a communist violent revolution, they use firearms and violence to implement their agenda... and when they are done... they collect the firearms from those that helped overthrow the government.

The John Brown Club has a history of showing up at left-wing events and protests armed with guns — and some suspected members were even arrested in July after allegedly launching firing works at a Texas ICE detention center, then firing a volley of bullets at workers and police.

Oh, I've known how dangerous the left is because they have a long and bloody history. Anyone that knows anything about history of communism knows how deadly, ruthless, and evil they are. Hundreds of millions of souls murdered by communism in the 20th century.

Our leftists are simply the current crop of communists that have grown from seeds planted in the USA from the 1930's and they are just now (within the last 30 years) grown up like weeds and gone to seed. They are the produce of the last 75 years of college/university communist professors that have been indoctrinating our college students and within the last 20-25 years the national teachers unions (new communist student indoctrinators of our children in public schools), that have done their best to brainwash our children. Now, they are coming home to roost.

Remember those revolutionary groups from the 60's and early 70s' like The Weathermen and Symbionese Liberation Army? Communist groups trying to create a race war between blacks and whites so they can take over what remains. well, thank God they failed. But, now they're back with a vengeance and have infiltrated the entire Jackass Party as well as the courts, legislatures, and executive branches. Let's just hope our youth resist their indoctrination so we can defeat them again.

Looks like Charlie Kirk's assassination has awoken a lot of the sleeping youths which is what the communists feared. That their indoctrination scheme may be falling apart. That's why they hated Kirk so much. Because he spoke the truth and exposed them. That's why they lied and called Kirk a hate monger, Nazi, Fascist. When in fact they are the Fascists and hate filled, evil equivalents of Nazis and communists like Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and Putin.

Surplus Yugoslav M48 bolt action rifles, which are a postwar copy of the 98K Mauser from WW2 are easy to find and relatively cheap, same with the ammo. You can either buy the old corrosive stuff or new-production stuff from S&B or PPU.

I have both an original 1944 German Mauser and a postwar M48 (I suspect it's a "Mitchell's Mausers" rebuild - IYKYK).

I doubt that. Reporting indicated that his mother was a leftist lunatic who hated guns and despised Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton because they didn't support the state of Texas banning guns. FBI reported that he recently "obtained" the rifle in August 2015. But, they didn't state how or from whom he obtained it.

Also, the curious thing is that in all the reports that I read, no mention was made about his father or any other relative, other than his lunatic mother and loony sister. That is unusual as most reporters usual find as much info on all closest family member or histories of close family members that died or no longer in the area and then they try to get interviews with them if they're still living for background on shooter's motives.

With this guy popping off a lot of rounds, do you think he had a Gewehr 43? We used to sell a lot of Mosin's but K98s were a bit harder to get and $$, and I supposed a 43 harder still. Having said that we'll see he media focus in on Mauser actions as "sniper" guns, and one reporter talking about how the bullets were almost 4 inches long will showing a picture of the 8X57s in the stipper clip. However what they don't understand and or know about firearms would fill the Grand Canyon, but I'm not going to tell them. Would all be funny if people weren't dying.

Speaking of snipers, if you even want to call them that, there was a guy in Atlanta that shot up the CDC building. I assume he used some kind of AR or semi auto rifle with big "CLIPS" (media's term). News reports said he fired several hundred rounds from wherever he was across the street from the CDC campus, it's a HUGE campus with several HUGE buildings. He hit a bunch of glass windows with those "hundreds" of rounds, but scored zero casualty in or around those buildings. He killed one cop that responded to the call, as the cop was getting out of his car. Again, I assume that was much closer.

His issue was that he thought the CDC and their invention of the covid vaccine messed his health up. I think RFK, Jr. got the blame for this guy going off on the CDC, since RFK, Jr spoke against the vaccine.

My point is, these whacko, psycho, crazy idiots are just that. They're crazy and that's what crazies do. Doesn't take a 1000 investigators months to figure that out.

If he loaded or planned to reload his rifle with stripper clips as shown inscribed, his rifle did not have a conventional top mounted scope. Sure, he might have had a Pachmayr or Weaver hinged mount or a forward mount a la Scout Scope.
Hey, maybe he got that ZF41 outfit out of Grandpa's collection. More likely just the standard frontschwein open sight.

Why? He fired 20-25 rds at the ICE facility building and the van with a bolt action rifle, most likely an 8mm Mauser K98, so he would have been carrying multiple, 5rd stripper clips to reload. Which he obviously did several times to fire off those 20-25 rds. And, by the time ICE agents ran across the street toward hims, he was fumbling to retreat and then commit suicide. So, why is that "odd" for him to have dropped a stripper clip? I'm sure he probably written on other cartridges with that same writing. Doesn't sound at all odd to me. Plus, reading about his mental defective, leftist mother makes all of this sound, anything but odd. What was he supposed to do with the "inscribed brass"? Swallow it before he shot himself to avoid capture by approaching ICE agents?

It's too bad that these murderous types don't kill themselves first.
While I'm griping. I'm an old man, when things like this happened years ago, you got the news, the press was all over it and the police would release all sorts of information, especially in something like this. These days, the press is lazy and the cops are hiding too much information, just because they can.
Nothing about this investigation is hindered by showing us the rifle, the ammo, etc.; the same with the killing of Charlie Kirk.

I don't' know why everyone thinks these Mausers are all war surplus. FN made hundreds of thousands of commercial, sporter Mausers after WWII in 30-06, 7x57, and 243 and sold them in the USA, Australia, and Canada under various names. Mausers actions may be the most prolific action out there. Roy Weatherby started out by taking Mauser actions and sporterizing them, so did Kimber. Ruger M77's are Mauser actions, so is the Springfield '03 and the Model of 1917.

Serial numbers weren't required until the mid-1950's. If this rifle the murderer in Texas used is an 8x57, it's probably a sporterized K98. Not as uncommon as people think. An unadulterated K98 is quite expensive.

With all the violence that is occurring because of the rhetoric liberals are spewing out it is unimaginable that they keep doing it. Typically, they incite the violence and blame it on conservatives. There are way too many unbalanced liberals running around following this call to arms. The major news media and late-night TV celebrities are constantly fanning the flames. Now they are crying it's their right due to "Free Speech". So, they feel shouting "Fire" in a crowded auditorium is protected free speech.

If it were only silly lilly-livered liberals spewing this garbage we could adjust that... the problem is these are not liberals in the traditional sense. This is much worse than stupid liberals... they liberals were eaten by the left and the liberals who remain are cowering in the corners afraid of the monster they allowed in which has stolen their party. The monster is the radical left which is behind all of this evil we are now seeing. I would put a solid bet that the CCP and other world communist forces are fanning the flames of this insane hatred. Their goal? To destroy our country and finish the job, the educators and academia are preaching and destroying our youth. They want these younger gens to be vessels of hatred and go fourth into our country, wreak havoc and declare war on our very foundation and our way of life. This evil is now in our Congress on the side which has traditionally been democrats... this must be corrected.
We have a real problem because little pimples like these last two killers with rifles--- are just the tip of the iceberg. This is going to have to be called out for what it is and dealt with extreme prejudice. This is exactly how the evil radical left is working its poison... we must not and cannot allow this to occur. Start with the leaders of the party which is condoning this... our schools must be purged of all that are affecting our youth.
This latest whack-job 29yr old... didn't just happen... he was a product of his home and schools... unhinged and unmanaged.
Looks Like Congress Could Finally Be Getting Serious About Violent 'Radical Left' Networks

There has been zero picture of the actual rifle.

The picture that's been shown by news media of the (their terms) "bullets", "magazine", etc. showed a five round clip of some sort. The "clip" has very brassy color/finish that almost matches the brass cases. I've never seen any stripper clips in that color. Those members that are historian of old military ammo, please educate me, which old military rifles used 5 rounds stripper clips. I know very little about rifles like the M1 Garand. I thought they used the "enbloc" clip that the cartridges are pre-loaded by hand into the clip.
