I'm looking for referrals for a gunsmith in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. I'm not looking for anything complex - trigger jobs on a couple of 1911s, a Ruger MKII .22, maybe a Ruger Security Six and a 10/22.

Also, I want someone I can deal with face to face, not through an intermediary.

Thanks!

Whitebear,

FWIW, I had a trigger job done on a S&W Model 625 at Riley Gilmore's shooting range (around 57th & Garnett if I remember correctly). I was definitely not "satisfied" with the work. It was returned once for correction. I was given a little "static" but they re-worked it. It still didn't work. I got tired of shipping my gun back & forth, so I just gave up.

Of course, I was not able to speak to the 'smith face-to-face. They apparently send out their gunsmithing work. I had to deal with the counter people at the range.

Good luck..........RR

You might check Lash's Gun Emporium on Mingo. They're between 51st and 61st in that strip mall on the East side of the road. If memory serves, they have a gunsmith on site, though I may be wrong on that. I'd imagine their people could at least point you somewhere. Great folks to deal with, at least from the taking your money side of things.

You might also call Bill's Sporting Goods up in Claremore. I THINK they have a smith on site. If not, again, they should be able to direct you somewhere.

You might also ask at Shooters World (21st & Memorial if memory serves). I don't think they have a smith, but they should be able to direct you. The folks in there are great to deal with, too.

I personally did not know that Nowlin was in OK, but I've heard they do great work. If you're in Tulsa, Claremore isn't really a bad drive.

Whitebear,

I highly recommend Mike Bay at Trident Precision Machine, 6333 South Peoria, 744-8105. He spent six years under the tutelage of Armand Swenson in California before moving to Tulsa a couple of years ago. He specializes in custom carry .45's and does excellent work. He has and is building guns for all services Special Forces and several government agencies. He will work on practically all other manufacturers weapons and the prices are very reasonable.

Try the gunshop at Cruiser Tech, the police supply on Admiral. Can't remember the smith's name, but he is a police armorer, and the shop is open to the public. Good folks to talk to, they're quite knowledgable. BTW, the smith up there carries a Rock Island 5" that he customized and refinished. If that's not enough, he quoted me $30-35 to reblue a slide. Depending on the level of finish you want, you might also try Mackool Firearms at 31 & Sheridan. Understand however, these guys are ARTISTS, and you WILL pay for their services. I'm thinking of having them French border my slide. I would also not recommend Tulsa Firearms. Riley is a good shooter, but I'm not impressed with his business practices.
