Anyone have one of these slides? I know they were put on the first production 1911A1 Army Colt pistols.
I have a CMP 1911A1 Colt without “M1911 A1 U.S. ARMY” on the frame and a very low serial number. The frame is a Colt and through my research, the very first production ( 1,000 or so) were marked like this on the frame and the right side of the slide was marked with “M1911 A1 U.S. ARMY”. Would really like to find the slide to complete the pistol.I can't speak to early production A1s being marked that way (someone else will), but early-war replacement slides were marked as such.
Thanks. Just my luck… needle in a haystack or impossible. I appreciate the info.Okay, that's a 1937 contract frame. Finding the "correct" slide is going to be even tougher as only 2349 pistols were made that year. Also the original slide was serial numbered to the frame, so technically there is only one correct slide out there.
No, it’s not a Navy, DSK found a more detailed explanation of what I found.II believe that's in the Navy range and would be marked as 1911 on the side.
ETA: Like DSK mentioned, it's going to be hard to near impossible to find the slide if it exists. And there's tons of other aspects of that pistol that would need "correcting", let alone the finish.
I see what you are saying. When you said “1911” and Navy, thought you were referring to the actual 1911 marked “US NAVY”.Pistols from 711606-712349 were procured for the U.S. Navy. But slide still marked as MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY

Do you have a slide? If so, PM me with a picture and we’ll discuss further. How high will you go for "slide only"?
Yes. I got it in Round 3. Thanks! That's really cool-a 1937. Is that a recent CMP sale? There were a number of 711xxx in that serial number range assigned to the battleship USS North Carolina BB55.
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for the info. I’ll keep an eye out… if you see one, please let me know! Thanks again!ARMY_NCO,
Your No 71177X, is one of 244 (711606 - 711849) Pistols shipped 4 Aug 1937 to the Commanding Officer, Springfield Armory for the USN.
While the SPARE SLIDES were from 1938 through September 1943, there are (apparently) Surplus or Spare 1937 Slides out there. All examined have the 1937 Roll-Marks, have been COLT blue, and un-marked under the FPS. (They occasionally show up on ebay and GB.)
