Beretta Stampede vs. Uberti Cattleman

Is there any significant difference between these two S.A. revolvers? They are both Ubertis aren't they? It appears to me that the Stampedes seem to be machined better when I examined them but I'm not sure. Anyone familiar with these two and able to shed some light on the subject. I'm looking for a replica 1873 S.A. Army revolver that's built well enough to handle being fired maybe twice a month and for the odd plinking. Can the Stampede handle the occasional "fanning"? How 'bout the Cattleman?

I looked at the New Vaquero but it just didn't feel right in my hand. I'm of the impression that if I were to be competing in Cowboy Action, it would be a better revolver to go with but I have no intention of doing that. Thanks for any and all advice.

The vaquero has a light trigger designed for better handling in SASS shooting...you are correct.

Have you looked at US Firearms? Might be up your alley as well...they are more spendy but definitely tough. If you "fan" your Uberti or Baretta you risk possibility of timing failure...tricky...

The explanation I got was that Beretta owns Uberti and had Uberti build the Stampede to their specs. The ones I've looked at seemed to be a bit better than the norml Uberti but that may have just been the ones I got to handle. I have a Stampede Deluxe and it's a nice revolver although US Firearms makes probably the best single action ever made.

I believe the difference is the transfer bar safety on the Beretta. The Uberti is just like the old Colts, firing pin on the hammer, no extra safety features.

I have a Beretta Stampede and like it a lot. The fit and finish is above what the average Cattleman is (at least the ones I've seen). But I do wish it was exactly like the old Colts and the Berettas are not. Which means I'll eventually be purchasing another SAA, either a Uberti or a Colt because I'll want something closer to the real thing.

They are basically the same gun, except the Beretta Stampede has a modern transfer bar and frame mounted firing pin.

The Uberti Cattlman has a traditional hammer mounted firing pin like a Colt.

Don't fan either of them unless you want to burr your locking notches up on the cylinder, break your bolt and bolt spring and break most of the springs in the gun.
So far as I know, the only factory SA revolver you can fan without destroying it in 150 rounds is the Taurus Gaucho. The folks at Taurus figured knucklheads would be fanning their SAs anyway so they went ahead and modified the internals to withstand that sort of silly abuse.

If you have a traditional SA you want to fan, take it to a gunsmith and have it modified. Elmer Keith mentions the mods in one chapter of his classic book sixguns.

I'd get the Vaquero and send it to Bob Munden and get his "option #2"...its a long wait...but you will be able to fan it all you want. He will make it slicker than snot on a doorknob.

Thanks for the detailed information Mr. Milton. I will look up Keith's book and learn more about these SAA's. I appreciate all the replies. It's educated me more and it assists me in making a more informed decision.
