Just an academic question I know, but when did the patent for Colts original 1911 design expire? I assume it has expired? Or do the makers of all the 1911 clones (Kimber,Para,et al) manufacture it under license and pay Colt a fee?

Ditto for the M16/AR15?

Here's another factoid for you deniers. Colt's best selling DA revolver
was the New Service Model, introduced in 1898. Colt sold 356,000 of
them.

S&Ws best selling revolver was the M&P/Model 10. They have made
6,000,000. So far. It is still in production after 111 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ruger is numero dos.
