Copper Grips

Hey ladies and dudes.....I have a project I need to complete and I am stuck.

I need copper grips for a Shadow 2. Looked high and low and NADA. Even reached out to a few anodizers who can’t do it.

So I may be stuck with spray paint, dura or Cerakote.

This the barrel I am trying to “match”.

The frame and slide will be black

Thoughts?

I would get a set of the CZ brass grips and see how close it is. Then if you cerakote them the base is already similar to copper and won't show as obviously as another color would with wear. The brass being metal can also be baked, witch allows the use of H-series Cerakote that does have a copper brown, but may or may not match exactly what you have already. The best match of course is to cerakote the barrel and grips copper brown, but it may not be as copper as it is now.

I doubt that paint will last and sorry Walter, it may look good but it is sorta cheesy. ;)

I don't think you should be looking for copper, or copper coating... instead I think you really want Titanium Nitride coating... that is what that barrel looks like it is coated with.

You should see if someone make a set of aluminum grips for your gun and then contact the folks that do Titanium Nitride coatings to see if they can coat aluminum and match the color of the barrel. I think they can according to this website.

Then you will have a something truly spectacular!!

I have bought raw and anodized aluminum grip panels for my P220, P938, P229 and several pistols from Hogue and Alumagrips.

Looks Great!!

Yes it will wear but you got it done.
Couldn't have those ugly oem greenish grips for the Holidays so airbrush it was.

Haven't seen any dyed copper colored wood veneers, yet, that exactly match the barrel, but you could dye cotton fabric, laminate with clear epoxy and carve.
West System epoxy with clear hardener.... been using it since the '70s.
Boats and Woodwork.

The Arizona flag has a copper star and that got me thinking a few years ago.

Thanks man.

If there is a way for me to TiN coat a set to exact match, I would. In the meantime, I’ll keep on the search for the perfect set 🙂

If the paint turns that I live e color, but comes off to easily, I may end up trying to Duracoat.

If I end up finding true copper ones they will most certainly tarnish, but that could be neat.

I also may pull the hammer and trigger and TiN as well....just don’t want to go overboard.
