Long title, but that pretty much sums it up. I'm looking for a list of companies that sell such guns here in 2024. The guns that I find in stores are all without the firing pin safety, so I'm hoping to order a series 80 gun.

If there is no list, then please drop the names of a company that you know sells them below and I'll edit this post to make a list.

If anyone else is going to use this list to make a purchase decision, remember to do your own due diligence on the model you're looking to buy.

List:
  • Auto Ordnance
  • Colt (Defender, Combat Commander, Lightweight Commander, Combat Elite, Combat Unit, M45A1, Delta Elite & SOME Custom)
  • D&L Sports
  • Sig
  • Taurus

Swartz (or other grip firing pin safety):
  • Kimber

Colt has several models.

My understanding is that new SIG 1911 XFull is series 80 too. I've not seen one live and it doesn't say so on their site but was reported by the owners. That makes it unique because it is the only 1911 or 2011 pistol, factory or aftermarket modified, that combines series 80 safety and slide RDS cut.

Thanks. Looking at the sig website, all the 1911s I've looked at say they have the firing pin safety.

Do you know which Colts have the pin safety?

Colt, SIG, Taurus, and when they were making 1911's Para.

There are other 1911's with firing pin safeties that aren't Series 80 designs.

Kimber uses a Swartz style firing pin safety and early S&W 1911's had a Mochak designed firing pin safety. Both of these operated off the grip safety and not the trigger like the Series 80.

When I bought my first 1911 it was a Colt. I didn't know the difference between the series 70 or 80. What I bought was a series 80. At the time the gun community didn't care for the series 80 and the majority of those on the forums of the time wouldn't own a series 80. They were of the opinion that the lawyers controlled too much of product development.

I sold the series 80 and bought the O1970A1CS which looked more like the WWII 1911. It had the lowered ejection port and didn't have the lanyard loop. At the time it was close enough for me. All of my 1911s are lack the firing pin block. Colt discontinued the O1970A1CS a few years ago. They're rarely seen for sale.

O1970A1CS is still made; they drop in batches to online retailers. Guns.com has one for sale right now.

The Colt series 80 and the Kimber Swartz can both be tuned to a point that you can't tell the difference between the 70 and 80 series. Actually, most Kimbers are like that right out of the box. I have a 70 and an 80 series Gold Cup and if you closed your eyes and I handed you one of them to shoot you wouldn't be able to tell me which one it was! Both guns are factory stock. However, I also have a Combat Commander that needs the trigger tuned a bit. I've had 8 or 9 new Kimbers over the years and I've never had one that had a bad trigger.

D&L Sports (Dave Lauck) makes their 1911s w/ the series-80 FP lock. Here is mine:
