Hello đź‘‹. So yesterday I got word that my newest addition to my collection had arrived at my LGS. So I headed out and picked her up. My initial inspection of the gun was it appeared Flawless. So I filled out my paperwork and took her home.
I did as I always do and filed stripped it down. I cleaned and inspected everything, again it appears flawless. Went on and placed oil where it needed to be and put it back together. Gave her one last wipe down, and eagerly put together a range bag so I could go shoot it tomorrow when the range opened. I loaded up 100 of 230gr FMJ from Fiochi to shoot as well.
Today I went to the range with the goal of getting 100 rounds down range. I personally believe the minimum round count to break in a 1911 is 200 rounds, with up to 500 rounds being the max. I like to do this in 100 round increments cleaning between each outing.
So while at the range I did a series of tests. First up in addition to the DW magazine I also tried the new MecGar, chip and mccormic, and some Wilson’s. They all fed flawlessly. I made sure to chamber a round then drop the magazine and add the 8th round each time. I did this with rapid fire as well. Not a single failure. Second I did some mag dumps tactical reload and mag dump again. Last I ran one magazine trying to be accurate, I believe the gun is capable of more than I am.
Overall I am thrilled with this weapon. Of course one would expect that from DW. The fit and finish is all but perfect. The trigger is crisp and breaks the same every time. The shoot ability is off the charts. My one complaint is for what the cost of this pistol is you would think they could do better sights. The sights are a blacked out rear U shape with a front brass bead. They do function well and are easy to acquire with good light. However TCP stands for tactical commander pistol, I just think a bright/night front sight at the least would have been in order.
Overall I couldn’t be happier! I will take care of the sights myself and go put another 100 down range. If it performs as it did today then she will be ready for carrying. FYI the target was at 25 feet.

Congrats.

My DW manual called for a break-in of 500, cleaning at every 50, using one of several lubricants they recommend. I doubt the routine you followed is so different it makes a difference, and perhaps the manuals are different for different models. I have a Guardian and a Vigil. The ledge sights you have are en vogue now and make sense for one-handed operation. The Guardian has night sights, but older style wedge shaped. I don't even remember what the Vigil has for sights.

Regardless, it's the reliability and smoothness that is so impressive. Congrats again.

Good luck with your new pistol and it’s good to hear that you basically like it.

Unlike you, I believe that for the cost of a DW one gets a lot - a well fitted 1911 of solid stainless steel bar stock that’s finished as close as you can get to a semi-custom.

You knew, or should have known, what the sights were before purchase. If at that point you opted for a semi or full custom, you would have had many more choices of sights, triggers, etc. - and the price would have been much, much higher.

Keep shooting and have fun - I think in short order you’ll be quite satisfied with the complete package.

I just got a TCP in 9mm a few weeks ago. Like you, I really like this pistol a lot!
I had many failures (feeding, ejection, battery) in the first 5-6 mags but then it settled in.
I dig the classic brass bead but I have a couple Staccatos and I’m spoiled by the Dawson fiber optics. That will be the only change I’ll make.
