I thought I'd ordered a ramp version, but I've come to like the undercut "target" style for the lack of reflections.
After shooting some low-light competition, I've also decided FO is a good option on self-defense guns, as when it's dark enough that the fiber is not distinctly glowing, it's too dark to be shooting without a light, anyway.

 

Best all around front site for me is a gold dot, plus it looks classy on a nice 1911. For strictly daytime range use it's hard to beat a fiber optic one (I like the green). Tritium with hi-viz circle outline is a very close second for an all purpose front site, I like the fluorescent orange or white outline ones & have 'em on a couple of 1911's. Anything other than a black blade helps me a lot.

 

After buying a Kimber with fiber optic front sight I decided I like that. My eyes have a hard time seeing the front sight clearly , FO much better.

Factory 70 series N.M. Gold Cup or Bomar for me. No dots or colors or white outlines. I am 78 and lucky to have good eyes. Wish I could say the same for other parts.

I think it was one I made in stainless steel as an experiment.

 

On a 1911 I prefer a gold bead front sight, and plain black adjustable rear sight. Apparently they even used this type rear sight in Special Ops.

 

Gold dot. Old eyes. It works for me. Everyone has different needs I think.

Gold bead on my Colt Commander.

 

Plain black post, serrated if shooting with a lot of glare from rear.

 

Dawson .090 fiberoptic. So good you have to custom order one.

 

Gold bead is my favorite, for super fast acquisition it is an Ameriglo and for just precision good old fashioned adjustable iron sights.

 

XS Tritium Big Dot Sight. Of course this will require some sort of adjustable rear sight to make it work properly.

 

I use Gold beads or XS big Dots on my center fire and fiber optic on my rim fire. Just sort of worked out that way.
