What’s up with this?
Does that date the magazine to when AWB was in place or?

Essentially, everyone in the world, except people who lived under the U.S. Constitution, could legally have that mag between 1994-2004.

Ok thanks guys- I don’t know anything about the ar platform so was curious about what I am seeing on these mags.
What I thought might be a date stamp is then and at 8/04 makes this one from last full month of that ban.
Curious again- was it law that magazines be so marked during ban years?

Yes.
The law banned the manufacture of new magazines for public consumption, so we could own any magazines other than those date-stamped.

Of course, the magazine tube could be bought as a spare part, as could the spring, follower, baseplate, etc., so, while illegal, it was easy to build a non-dated magazine from legally-purchased parts.

I have never owned a dated mag, but it's interesting that they are stamped with information indicating it's illegal for me to own them, even though it's perfectly legal for me to own them.

All of the above points to the futility/stupidity of such "bans".

Mexico has a rule about no military calibers, so no 9mm or 45.
I saw a few people with unmarked HK 40 Compact magazines (12 rd), one guy said he got his during a trip to mexico.

Not worth the risk to me, but I doubt anyone was ever convicted for "smuggling magazines" anymore than 922(r) violations or whatever.

The CO. Mag limit law states that no magazine with a capacity of greater than 15 rounds may bought, sold, transferred or brought into the State after 7/1/13.

And the magazines of greater than 15 rounds must have been in the State and in continuous possession of the owner prior to the restriction date.

Actually you could buy dated magazines during the ban dated before the AWB - we called these 'pre-ban' and you can imagine what they were selling for. As a civilian/non-LEO, we could not buy the mags dated from 94 to 04 which is why they bore the 'LE-only' stamping. I believe government-contract mags still must be identified by manufacturer and date just like before but at least for now those in free states can still buy any mag they want. I really never thought we would be talking about another AWB but having lived through one I have plenty of guns and mags. :)

I also had never seen a USGI pre ban mags that are dated but according to people that are in the business buying and selling these 30 rd mags, most of the US military mag suppliers don't date stamp their mags except two sources which are Center Industries and Okay Industries.

Center and Okay both made unstamped as well as stamped mags.

Center Industries are externally marked with their CAGE code of 6P199 with two digit month, slash symbol and two digit year.

Okay Industries have two versions of markings, the early markings are internal only, the letter "O" then month on the left half of the body, then two digit year next to the month and at the right half the letter "K" with month plus the two digit year next to the month stamp.

The location of the internal stamps are at the bottom of the mags about half inch inside the bottom edge or floorplate, the numbers and letters are also upside down in orientation, but when you look inside the mag upside down, the markings are right side up.

The Okay internal stamps was seen around 1986 or even earlier, up to early to mid 1991.

The second Okay version of markings are both internal and external from 1991, the internal marks are the same as the older version but the external markings are the Okay CAGE code of 33710 and month/ year.

I had 30 rd Colt mags that are made by Okay Ind. and most of them had the internal markings but only a few don't, my pre ban mags I bought them from 1984 up to early 1994 before the ban.

Currently all my Colt pre ban mags I no longer have, usually I gave them away to relatives and friends in ban states that allows pre ban mags. I've got plenty of mags now, my USGI mags are made from 2005 to recent mostly D&H with Teflon finish all upgraded with Magpul gen 3 anti-tilt followers, a few steel various brands, PMAG and Lancer translucent.

The mag sellers are also saying that the pre ban mags with external date markings usually have a higher price than the mags with only internal marks.
