I dumped the "Wife Unit" last year (after 23 years) and now I am building my collection as well. :)

Colt Officer's .45 Auto SS
Kimber Eclipse II Pro
Colt Govt. .38 Super in Bright SS

This is just a start. Should be there with you in the next two years or so! :)
Lol. Guns don't talk back or make a fuss. You don't have to buy shoes for them....only feed them.....and they never ask if they look fat.....

fe700 that NRM looks fire blued. darn sharp with the short trigger and arched msh looks like a million. the other one isn't half bad either.

Thanks bud for the nice compliment. :)

That's a Gunkote finish I did on it. Came out better than I could have ever hoped. I'm going for the look of the older series 70's. I would say late 60's model or so? I think I'm there. It's a beauty if I don't say so myself. ;)

Can you detail your gunkote steps for me?
I have a Colt Trooper MK V 357 Mag I would like to refinish with gunkote. It was blued. I had to replce the sideplate with a nickle plated one, will this make a difference? Will the beadblasting and K-Phos take care of the adhesion to the nickle?
Also, have you seen, or anyone else, the new "Gun Blue" finish KG is offering?

Thanks, your pistols look great!!!

1948 commercial done up by ? Found it used in a shop and the work was obviously top drawer. Might be a Clark but is not marked.

Not a 1911, but (so far) it's the only Colt in the house

It belonged to the great great grandfather of my wife. He served with the Missouri militia in the Civil War and was held as a POW in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Oh yeah, my mother-in-law used to play with it as a child (take it apart like a puzzle), so it has been handled quite a bit. Original finish (and slightly rounded screw heads) though.

Sorry it took so long to respond. I wasn't getting emails of replies in this thread.

Anywho, let me refer you to this link. This will tell you everything you need to know.

Here are my Novak's -built Colt Series 80 Enhanced Colts.

Image

The late Joe Bonar built the Combat Commander and his son, Dusty, built the Goverment Model. The work on the pistols was as follows:

  1. Novak's Night Sights System
  2. Carry Bevel Package
  3. Extended Grip Safety w/Lanyard Loop (S&A on Commander, Ed Brown on Gov't)
  4. Extended Thumb Safety
  5. Trigger Job with Videki Trigger
  6. N.M. Bushing
  7. Reliability Package
  8. Smith & Alexander Flat Checkered Mag Well (Arched on Gov't)
  9. Reliability Package
  10. Grasping Grooves on Front of Slide
  11. Refinish ( bead blast & blue)
  12. Cocobolo Wood Grips (Hogue on Gov't Model, Spegel on Commander)

I went for beadblasting and bluing on both, as they are shooters and most of the other finishes were far more expensive and wouldn't last as long. The S&A flat checkered mag well and grip safety with palmswell I have found preferrable to the round checkered mag well and Ed Brown grip safety. I will have both replaced on the Government Model soon. I will replace the Hogue with Spegel grips soon, and I went with skateboard tape on the front straps of both because I was too cheap to get the front straps checkered, but would recommend that work over tape.

Spieler... there is something great about the basic black, plain Colt look... I like it! Just got a new ORM 1991A1 Commander a few weeks ago which I'm looking forward to photographing in "basic black."
