Some slide work in progress on a new gun build.

My least favorite mod to do. Hand serrating a slide. I usually lay the lines out like they are here and go back to them a couple more times to point them up. You can go cross eyed doing these if you do them enough. And if someone slaps you on the back, they’ll stay that way.

Chen Gen 2 magwell action.

A little CNC, some manual milling, a whole bunch of hand work and a ton of sanding to get a near seamless fit and a the deepest bevel you can get without going below the grip screw bushings 😀

New Caspian's Commander build. Semi bobtailed, Fusion slide and P/C Ramped Match barrel. Hand cut 30 LPI frontstrap and mainspring housing. MS housing started as a smooth flat piece.

OK what the heck. As my first build it is a tribute and mate for my 84 Grand national. As a bulleye shooter and retired diemaker, it had to shoot very accurately and had to have the fit and finish do it Jem frame, Caspian slide, Kart barrel. Harrison Design Internals. I did fit every thing to the best I could get. Barrel on center. Slide tight but like butter I did NOT do the custom Cuts on the slide or the checkering. Changed trigger guard, mag release. Disconnector cut. Polished internals. External to 10,000 grit on granite surface plate.

Really enjoying this post. The in-process pictures are invaluable for a someone (like me) learning their way around the 1911 platform and machine tools.

Here are a few pictures of my 2nd and 4th build, neither are completely finished at this point. Made several mistakes along the way (big and small), but learned a handful of lessons to carry forward into future projects. Plans and parts changed along the way with both pistols, hence the somewhat disjointed progress.

This thread is one of the reasons I got inspired to dive into gunsmithing on a more serious level. I've went through the entire thread once already and need to again. I'd love to be on the level of many of the smiths in here someday. For now, I'm just a regular guy with a boring job and big dreams. Would love to see regular posting in here again because it's very inspiring for the rookies.

Diving in with my Tisaas Service. Bought this just to play with. Experimented with some distressing of the finish and did my first French border and bottom slide cut. Can't call it a bevel...did a ball mill. Filled in the cuts with some cold blue.
On the list of other things to do;
Flat top and serrations
Checker front strap
High grip cut
Checkered MSH
-maybe- FBI cut
Smooth edges on grip safety and hammer
Smooth/blend thumb safety and slide stop (or replace)
Smooth back of slide and frame
Subtle smooth/blend on sharp edges
Bevel front of slide
Upgrade bushing
Upgrade sights
crown barrel
Polish flats and either hot blue or Nitride/distressed finish.

Love this stuff! I am just getting into building 1911 and having to teach myself for the most part, so books, vids (youtubes) and this Forum are a huge help. I went into this with some bit of knowledge from all the previous mods I would make to my competition guns, etc.
I find the gunsmithing is a lot like that saying for Texas Hold 'Em... "it take a little time to learn, but a lifetime to master" LOL.

Question: Yes a remedial one... Are you hand blending the beavertails to you slide/frame? If yes, what grit papers are you using to polish it out after initial hand filing?

Thanks for these posts!
