I came across this old 12 gauge this weekend. It is an Ithaca Flues side by side field grade from 1920. I have always wanted to add a sxs to my collection. It feels amazing in the hand and I love the age.

I know it will not shoot modern loads, but I have a 12 gauge press and will load correctly for it. It will be a few weeks to get all the components together before I can shoot it. I am thinking of buying some RST light shells to get me by.

With extruded steel barrels.

That gun will handle modern shells easily.

I have one about that age. When I was a kid I hunted deer with it a few times, I shot OO Buck from it no problem. It kicked like a mule, when I was only 140 pounds. I still own that gun and only shoot bird shot from it now. I have missed a lot of dove with that gun. It is a family gun, so I will never sell it, but I should since it hasn’t been shot in years. Maybe my son will shoot it more than I have.

Your looks very nice. Enjoy. Thanks for sharing.

That's a gorgeous smoothbore! The American classics are things of utilitarian beauty and you are lucky to have one. I recently picked up a 16ga Fox Sterlingworth that was mechanically tight, but needed some TLC. I'm having it restocked with walnut from a farm I hunted in my childhood, and plan on putting it into my regular hunting rotation.
