Unfortunately gun stores are going to have to turn their buildings into virtual fortresses if they want to keep this from happening. It's expensive, but this seems to be happening with increasing frequency. There need to be bollards surrounding the entire building that are strong enough to prevent any vehicle from smashing through. That and main entrances need to have two sets of doors that can be electronically activated by employees, preventing anyone from simply walking in or out without being buzzed. It's a PITA to us customers, but if these thefts keep getting worse the antis will use it as an excuse to pass more laws making it nigh impossible for many FFLs to do business.

 

I got an ATF notice today about an FFL in Crete, IL having an attempted robbery. Sad.

 

Osage had bollards at the front door except they were spaced just far enough that the Hyundai just fits.

I was speaking in general terms. There are lots of gun shops near me that are just rented spaces in a strip mall and have little more than a locked gate and an alarm system for security.

As for the spacing of the bollards, I'm pretty sure that Osage is pretty red-faced regarding that one.

I’m not a grammar nazi at all, but this has always been a pet peeve of mine.

 

It's just plain wrong that someone who stands up for correctness in spelling, punctuation, grammar and syntax, as well as just plain accuracy in reporting, should be called a "Nazi."

 

Once they catch one, they will have them all. Way too many to keep their mouths shut. The lips be flapp'in. Plus watching their action, they are armatures.

 

A bunch of stupid young punks. Sooner or later they will all end up in prison.

 

Very likely, they all have already been there.

 

If I were Osage County Guns, I would do at least 2 things.

1) Make the bollards closer together, so there is NO WAY any car will fit between them.
2) Stop placing guns in glass display cases! Top Gun in Arnold, MO, (same metro area), places all of their guns on a wall, and there are metal roll-up doors that are lowered and locked over them when they are closed. Anything that can't fit behind the metal roll-up doors on the walls goes into the vault at closing time.

 

It is hard to stop smash and grab break ins. Like this one they are in and out fast. The only thing that would have helped would be video monitoring at an alarm central station. They would have seen what was going on and dispatched ahead of time.

 

there was a gunshop near me (long since closed) that got robbed once - after that they had large steel lockable boxes mounted the floors behind the display cases, the were the same width and had foam cut to match the size. the boxes were securely bolted to the floor, and at closing time every gun came out of the glass case and went into the box - the box was locked with hi quality padlocks.
Yes the locks could be cut or picked - but that would take too long. At closing time the staff could quickly and easily put the guns in the lock boxes in the same orientation they had been in the display case, so to put them back out in the morning didn't take long.

I thought it was a clever solution and probably less money than buying a bunch of safes....

Didn't read the article, but I'm guessing stolen car? Since they want to hold gun manufacturers and owners liable for crime/shootings/death committed with their otherwise legally manufactured/owned firearms, why not hold the autos manufacturer/dealer/owner responsible?

Organized punk thugs. Not all ghetto members can play professional sports so they resort to this. Drywall and metal studs are not going to stop this from happening.
