Theodore designed the ASP, yup - had an one-piece gutter-style sight called the Guttersnipe sight.

As for seeing ammo, well - I'm not too worried about checking 3 or 4 rounds down, personally - I'd rather like to get a glimpse after firing around 6 or so ;)
I don't know why i keep thinking Devel did these.
The magazine article probably had both guns in it. (Back in the '70s or so)

There's the old story about bored infantrymen or aircrews making clear grips out of wrecked airplane windshields during WW2. From what I've seen most were made too well to be somebody's foxhole creation. More likely there were folks who were making them and selling them to any GI who came along. And yes it was common to slip a picture of your sweetheart (or mom) underneath.

Yep, I met a B-17 pilot at an airshow who had clear grips on his 1911. He showed me he'd put a picture of his girlfriend in them. It was a sweet old 1911.

I thought they wouldn't been good looking but I am even surprised. Very different. And I am even more surprised at how clear they really are. While I won't give final judgement without seeing some in real life, I am liking them so far.

Maybe I can get a pair and put a picture of my favorite President or American Hero. Or even...GASP...pin-up girl?

Some things never change.

Regards,
Greyson

I have seen those clear/translucent grips on ebay from time to time. They are a really interesting look on your gun.
