Problems with Springfield Garrison?

How many have experienced problems using a Springfield Garrison you own?

I’m asking because I feel like the Garrison may be one of the best values for what you pay in 1911s.

However, some people have reported problems with them. But my impression is that these problems are with 9mm pistols.

Just wondering how many have experienced problems with their Garrison, and what caliber it was.

I have two blued Garrisons, one each in 9mm and .45, and neither one have given me any grief or headaches, period. I did change out the springs in the 9mm, and on both, I switched the grip screws, bushings and grips to "normal" width grips. Other than that, zero other things. I shoot them both regularly, and enjoy both of them. I also set up a .38 Super barrel for the 9mm, and it's given me zero issues in that chambering, too.
I couldn't be more pleased with them.

Owned my 45 ss since july if 2022.Zero problems.Only thing I've done shoot the fire out it,come home clean thoroughly and oil.No ammo drama from Any brand.Do prefer specific brands myself such as certain federal, defender, precision one and use sierra jhp 185 as a low cost low grain for practice.Speer gold dot 200 grain is my carry stuff.Rd count maybe a 1k.

Springfield Armory has been building 1911s since 1985. What problems are you hearing about, exactly?

I LOVE my Blued 45ACP

I've been running it hard, getting it too hot to touch, really abusing it.
It's been great

I am slowly upgrading some of the parts

I've had several Springfield Armory pistols, though no Garrison. All have worked well, giving no problems. This includes my single 9mm, a stainless Loaded Target. My only problem with SA is that I don't like thin grips, and their "standard" grip is slightly thicker than what I consider standard thickness, so I change the grips.

The Loaded Target current has Hogue Extreme G10 grips that combined with the G10 mainspring housing, form a magazine well.

My 9mm Garrison is one of my favorite pistols ever, runs like a dream. Even other people I've let shoot it have remarked on it. My only quibble, and it's a very minor one, is that I'd prefer a red fiber front and blacked out rear sight since I mostly shoot targets with it, but that's just a minor expense and time to fix whenever I get around to it.

My .45 Garrison has been flawless from day one. I typically prefer thin grips on my 1911s but with the thin grips on the Garrison, I seem to shoot a little left. I'm wondering if the pistol is twisting in my hand? I also am thinking about changing the bushings and switching to standard thickness grips. I also changed the rear sight to a U notch and replaced the front site with a Novak mega dot.

Mine has been a piece of Sht right out of the box its on its way back from SA as we speek for the 2nd time in 2 months one hour after owning I was shipping it back to SA locked up so tight couldn’t move the slide with a malled ,magazines would not load now front sight fell off and exstractor took a crap this is all with a brand new Garrison. O ya and my new SA-35 high point is also a downer wrong front sight unless you were shooting at the ground and magazine rattles like a kids toy. Think real hard about buying a SA

That's a unfortunate situation. On the Garrison which caliber?Reason asked is among the two models 9 or 45, the 45s for the most part have had a Good track record. The 9m have had some issues and there is a post specific to what those were.Owning 4 sa products xdm 45xds9m,ronin 9m and garrison ss 45 all of mine zero problems.I can understand the irritating aspect with yes a brand new pistol failing.Of my 10 pistols only 1 issue with my savage 1911 45 ( its fixed) and a awesome gun.Dont let this drag you down on sa it happens with Alot of brands. :)

I bought mine in .45 last August. Currently at 1,303 rounds, approximately half of which were Federal AE 230, the rest JHP of various types.

I bought this pistol (my first, and only, 1911) to use for Bowling Pin competitions. I also wanted to have the "1911 experience", after shooting striker polymer guns almost exclusively. Being a retired OCD engineer, I really enjoyed fiddling around with it. I quickly discovered the joy of swapping out parts, and then realizing the knock-on effects of the system. I realize I could have just left it alone, but that wasn't going to happen. I do keep a pretty detailed log of what I've changed, but I'd be embarrassed to share it. :)

The gun has been reliable, except for the occasional feedway stoppages using hollow point ammunition. I spent several months diagnosing this issue this past spring, and after going through that process, the gun now runs both FMJ and HP with no issues. If I had to pick out the one thing that contributed most to solving the problem, it was the fitting of an EGW higher shelf magazine catch.

It is a lot of fun to shoot.

Latest news on my POS Garrisson went back for the third time to SA . Got it back with the same ejection issues they did not do anything to fix the ejecting issues O BUT THEY POLISHED THE BOTTOM OF THE SLIDE (***) bought this garrison in October have had it in my position for a total of 9 days the rest FEDEX and SA had it. YA a bit disappointed at SA I’m sure I will get a heart warming excuse for all the guns issues. MERRY CHRISTMAS

I bought my 9mm Garrison last spring. The spring plug was binding on the dust cover so I immediately got a RA and sent it back to SA. SA fixed the binding issue and reblued the slide. Since then it has run 100% and it is one of my best 1911s. Accurate and totally reliable. I swapped out the SS for a Wilson BP, steel EB firing pin and 12# recoil spring. I love it and it is so mild to shoot 9mm, I giggle every time I run a mag thru it.

I used it as a base for a NHC Super build and look forward to getting it back this spring.

I can't figure out where to post my questions about the Garrison. I'm new to this site and new to 1911s.

I never owned a 1911 in any caliber, but I'm thinking of buying a stainless 5" Garrison in .45 cal. Great looking gun! My questions involve Garrison sights. Do owners of this gun find the sights adequate for general target shooting? Can the slide be racked by hooking the rear sight onto something like a belt or holster? Finally, are Springfield sight cuts proprietary? Do big name sight manufacturers make sights specifically for Springfield 1911s?

Thank you!
