I recently purchased a RIA 1911 9mm CS with the 3.5" barrel. It came with one Metal Form magazine. I was hoping that it would perform as well as my Citadel (Armscor) compact 45. I am still hoping.

The magazine is very tight and it is difficult getting the last few rounds into it. I had numerous FTE (fail to eject) problems with the spent casing being pinned by the ensuing round.

I would appreciate comments from anyone who has this firearm and can shed light on the eject and feed problems.

I have heard good things about the Metal Form Mags but right now, I am not so sure what to believe.

On the positive side, when the weapon did fire through a complete magazine, I was amazed with the accuracy.

Any insights with this problem would be appreciated.

Load the magazine to FULL capacity and put it in the gun, and let it set for a week or so while you carry your 45 cal. The spring needs a bit of time to settle in properly. Keep the slide in battery with an empty chamber for safety, this will put additional tension on the spring.

loose extractor? i have the same gun. after the first couple hundred rounds and an extractor adjustment it works great. 3 metal form mags. couple ftf's with the nose of the bullet jamming on the front edge of the mag case but after some light polishing they feed great now.

I have this same gun and it is actually more relaible and accurate than my Kimber Ultra CDP II (sold the Kimber). I never used the stock magazine - went with Wilson Combat from the git go. Never have had a problem. You'll find that quality mags solve alot of problems in 1911's.

Wisco, I am in my 2nd RIA, including my latest, the 9mm CS Tactical, same as yours. I haven't experienced the same problems that you have, but I have only about 110-120 rounds through mine. One thing about it - it sure is accurate and a well-made firearm! I replaced the grips with Hogue checkered Kingwood and am going to order several more mags for it. Mine came with the Metalform front-ramp mag, which works great in my gun. I use the same mags in my full-size 9mm Tactical and have never had a feeding issue with them.

Hope you get yours fine-tuned and running smooth - and enjoy it as much as i do mine. Long live the ROCK!

RIA 9mm comments..

My RIA 1911 9mm is a fullsize / GI model but when new, I had many of the mag related feed problems you described with the Checkmate mag that came with my pistol. I have had good luck with Mec-Gar mags in the past, so I found some 1911 9mm mags on Cheaper than Dirt and ordered a few..Feeding problem solved. (a bonus is the low cost of even the nickle plated Mec-Gar mags, compared to Wilson & other popular brands.)
As my pistol passed the 300 round mark, I noticed the Checkmate mag was working better, and after around 500 rounds, through the pistol, the mag worked as well as the Mec-Gar mags. Guess the mag needed some use and the pistol needed a little break in as well. RIA states in their owners manual that there is a 500 round "break in" period for their pistols...
Now I'm "breaking in" another RIA.. an Officer's model..:biglaugh:Joepistol..
