Can one of you learned gentlemen please help me out? I have a question about shipping a handgun to a person who has a curio and relic license. I have a pistol that is on the 2018 ATF Curio and Relic list. Can I use FedEx or UPS to ship the pistol to the person who has a curio and relic license?

Yes you can use either to send the gun. A type 3 C&R ffl is still a federal firearms license, and they can have guns shipped to their door. I know there is at least one state that still requires the gun to go through a regular ffl, but Cali is full of bullflop laws.

The buyer needs to send you a signed copy of their C&R for your records. Other than that you should be GTG as it's no different than an FFL as long as the weapon is C&R eligible.

Make sure you have a copy of their signed ffl. Ship only to the address on that license and it shouldn't be a problem. A ffl03 is a personal license. You cannot ship to a ffl03 for a different buyer. For example if they were to say I want this gun can you send it to my buddy he has a c&r. You said you've already checked to make sure the pistol is on the approved list or of a certain age. Shouldn't be a problem. I had my c&r for a while. Just didn't see the point in keeping it up once the surplus guns dried up.

All good information. I shipped a relic to an 03 (rifle) and the ATF never kicked my door down. ;)

I plan on shipping another one soon and will do it again if requested.

Having shipped handguns in the past I won't do it again. Fed ex and ups wanted way too much money. I ended up having to hire a ffl to ship it through the post office. All because the USPS wouldn't recognize my c&r as a ffl. The douche at the counter went so far as to threaten to call the cops on me because I asked if I could ship it there. And no I didn't have the handgun with me. He was screaming something about intent and who knows what. And this was in rural Montana. I've shipped lots of rifles. It's another game entirely when it comes to handguns.
