The Colt was my first 1911 and came to me used with a Mil Spec hammer but the skeletonized trigger. Goofy 6 inch un threaded barrel with no muzzle device. Later found out the innards got kitchen table gun smithing. If I knew then what I know now I would have figured just from the photos the gun was butchered by someone with no sense of direction but I found out well after I bought it.

It Went to a gunsmith where the Barrel got cut down and crowned and hammer, sear and safety replaced.

Now looks weird, old scratched up Mil spec looking frame and slide withupdated hammer and trigger. Debating maybe getting it cerakoted in 2 tone since the classic look is is almost gone anyway. Dark slide, tan frame. Pics to give me inspiration on color schemes would also be appreciated.

I've had a couple of 1911's cerakoted.

Sold the slide off this one, and went with a SS Loaded slide instead - but here's what it looked like before I did that. It started life in 1995 as a parked Mil-Spec.

Here's another, that I bought off a PD Armorer in FL - it'd been rattle-canned a few times, and looked awful, so I spruced it up with some shiny parts and cerakote.

I haven't shot either a LOT (the latter has been done for over ten years now - the former is fairly recent, and I DO wanna shoot it some MORE), but the finish holds up well.

NOT sure about daily carry in kydex, though. I'm kinda curious how that holds up myself.

Three or four years now, so far so good. Carried in colder weather in a leather IWB holster.
You can see the grip tape starting to let go on the front strap from the cleaning solvents used when cleaning, I need to replace it or remove it altogether.

Here's the only one I had done, the original finish off after a couple months of carry so I had it done. My main problem was there are so many colors and in every light they look different. As far as how it holds up, I don't know, I haven't used gun since, switch to a Sig Ultra nitron for four years and it still looked new.
