Update:

I bought it. It’s in very good shape. There seems to be the slightest amount of play in the between the barrel and the slide. Wife says I need to wait till Christmas but I’m gonna try to sneak it out to the range in the next day or two. I updated the pic with the actual one I bought.

Hello,

My LGS had a Springfield Long Slide for sale and it really caught my eye. Does anyone own one of these that can tell me about it. It has adjustable rear sight, abi safety, it had front strap checkering. It did have the Brasil stamp on it. The pic is just something I grabbed off the internet.
I don’t really need another Springfield 1911 but this one had me thinking.

I had one that I sold off after I got a few higher end long slides.
It was a great firearm. Trigger was a little heavy but nothing too bad, thumb safety had a good snick and fit and finish was fine.
I wouldn’t sweat the Brazil stamp, for a time Springfield was sourcing frames from Imbel in Brazil and finishing the builds in the US.
If I recall these all had a N serial number prefix (NM being a US frame)

Someone I shot with had a real passion for one of those long slide Springers. He chatted about waiting on it a good bit. Took him a year to get one he ordered from Springfield delivered to an FFL for him. He loved it!

I prefer a 5” 1911 but these long slides have more of a push back with less muzzle rise than the 5” guns. I could be wrong but in my experience the long slides are more tolerant of different power loads. Only caveat would be really weak softball rounds.

They are a good candidate to higher power stuff like 45 Super and 45 SMC. Mine is setup and tuned for those two rounds and its eats standard power ball ammo like its going out of style!

I like long slides ,, my friend Billy1911 let me shoot his Springfield SACS made longslide, what a great gun ! Just puts a round wherever you point it, incredibly accurate ! Really cemented my love for long slides. I ended up building a Fusion 9mm 6” longslide and just is a really nice gun, just great accuracy ! Then a number of years ago I bought a 6” Kimber target longslide which is incredibly way more accurate than I am. Just an enjoyable couple of guns.

Thanks Bill for stoking that and causing me to spend money !😁😁😁

So every 1911 owner / lover if you have the money should own one . Super fun shooting
. Probably one of the easiest 1911 I have ever shot , but hardest to reassemble . You want
to empress your friends by shooting 45 acp at 100 yards " done " . ;) . Like someone else
said the pistol has little to no muzzle flip . The action is not as hard as a 5 inch , its smoother and comes strait back to the hand . Most accurate 1911 I own . Like passx said fun . Its a crowd pleaser I only thing I wish I would have had SACS do more would have been highcut the trigger guard but I wish they would have do it to all my pistols . :) Rob at ACW ruined me . If you have questions just ask away .

I never even knew that SA Inc. made one!
From 1999 to 2014 The early ones had fixed front sights . Later on they dovetailed the slide so
you could change and add options . Some had checkering , Some not . Some magwells , Some
not . They had a V-16 Ported version in 45 Super . SACS made custom Longslides . They also
Customized stock Longslides which is what mine is with the Accurizing package .

So I can tell you a few things about your pistol I see . Someone did some work to yours
Highcut trigger guard , Looks like a gold bead front sight , The slide has been beveled .
The frame has been beveled , and the trigger replaced .

Seems like the latter but dies this longslide use a longslide length recoil spring or the standard government 5” recoil spring?

If ypu ate pushing on the back of the slide and the muzzle play is closed up something else is goinv on. Maybe the Mil-Spec spring helped in that respect.

I can’t find any info on a Long Slide length spring. From everything I’ve read they just use the government sized springs. I’m gonna replace it with a 17 and an 18 pound spring and see what shoots best. There is a little bit of play but not a lot. My TRP and newer 1911s from Springfield are very tight but this one isn’t bad. I’m toying with the idea of getting a WC standard 6” barrel with the barrel bushing. The long slide has the cut for the barrel bushing.

Yes standard 5 inch spring is used and 16 is the stock rate .
