I live in the communist state of California, and the Ruger MK IV Target and MK IV 22/45 was added to the roster about a year ago. I would like to buy either of the above and toying with the idea of upgrading the stock frame and parts with the TandemKross " Kraken " lower.

The gun will be use primarily for plinking and informal range shooting. Any one have experience with the Kraken lower? Was the expense worth it?

What a difference in smooth trigger pull with a Volquartsen trigger on my 22/45 that I bought in early 2024 ! I had them do the install and it is perfect.
I’m not knocking Tandemcross, as I don’t have experience with them.
Happy New Year to all at 1911 🎉

Sorry you live in a communist state, you should move! :ROFLMAO: Just kidding, but not really.

First, whether you get the Ruger MK IV Target and MK IV 22/45 depends on the grip angle you like. I do not like the angle of the Target model and everything I shoot is a 1911/2011 grip angle so I prefer the 22/45.

Back to your question, yes, I have experience with the Kraken lower, but it is no longer called the Kraken. It is now called the Cthulhu, and it is awesome. My pistol started as a Volquartsen Mamba-X, but it did not feel great in my hand with the factory Ruger lower. Once I got the Cthulhu complete lower, I did not like the rubber grip that came with it so I changed that out to the Tandemkross Tempest Grips and Magwell (made by Creekside Custom) which completes the gun and I love the feel. Final part was adding the Creekside Custom mag bases to work with the magwell.

I am aware this gun has gotten a little out of control and most people will not spend this kind of money, but it was worth it to me the pistol is perfect both in how it feels and shoots.

I'm quite partial to Volquartsen, they are in my State of Iowa and I knew the owner, Tom, from many years ago. I also own some Tandemkross stuff for my Smith & Wesson Victory, trigger, Halo ring, and captured recoil spring and have been quite satisfied with them all.
