I have a Rock River Armory Tactical II in 10mm. First 10mm, 2nd 1911 but I’ve been reloading for 43 years. I bought some Speer 165gr Gold Dots to load for my carry load. Alliant shows max load of 10 grains of PownerPistol with this bullet and velocity of 1314 FPS. Lyman manual shows 8.7 , 1265fps.
I decided to trust the Alliant data... I loaded 20 rounds with 9.5grs of Power Pistol and chrony’ed them today and got an average velocity of 1355, high of 1406 low of 1311. That was from 13 shots fired through the crony. No signs of pressure, no more perceived recoil than some other reloads and factory loads I was shooting. Just really interesting to see a higher velocity with .5 grains less powder than listed loads. It was about 40 degrees (at most) while shooting.
Just curious if these are tested loads or “calculated” from other known data. I have no intention of moving up anymore and will finish the box with this load. I think I’ll buy the other box that was on the shelf because my other carry gun is a Springfield Armory XD subcompact in 40s&W and I’ll load this bullet for that also.
I did an expansion test with one of the rounds. Filled a 2 foot tall kitchen garbage can with pond water and fired into it from the deck above. This is a bonded bullet and I was curious... Beautiful mushroom, retained weight of 163 grains! Hydrostatic shock split the garbage can from top to 3 inches from the bottom. No hole in the bottom. This is a bullet/round/gun I will have confidence in protecting my family and me!
