I know this thread is several years old, but I would like to add information. Only the Gov't models that went through the London Agency had the Cyrillic markings (Joe Poyer's book on 1911's). Some of the early shipments for Russia went to "His Britannic Majesty's Gov't", (Goddard's book on Government Models) and were not stamped "English Order". To support these statements I own C298XX which was shipped Feb 19, 1916 in a lot of 500 to His Britannic Majesty and it DOES NOT have the Cyrillic stamp. Only way to know this gun went to Russia is from the Colt factory letter. The shipping date for C298XX of Feb. 19, 1916 aligns with the first published date, Feb. 19, 1916 for these models for Russia so I believe that this gun was in the very first shipment (500 guns) to make its way to Russia, through the United Kingdom. Thanks. PS: I would like to have a box of period ammo to display with this piece. Any ideas on that?

Thanks

Thanks for posting the photo and letter for your Russian 1911. Yours is in very good condition. Mine shows more use and has been fired many times. Here is a couple of quick photos of the gun and the letter. Regards.
